It was an uneven film, IMO. Some good things: - the visuals were spectacular (loved the INTERSTELLAR segment, in particular - and the various Dubai backdrops, like the desert for DUNE or the city for the THE DARK KNIGHT....even though I don't like the city as a travel destination, I was there in 2010) - Lisa Gerrard was goosebump-inducing - I do like some of the pieces being performed, although I'm mostly a fan of his 1988-2003 period - It's a good idea to have laidback, b/w conversations inbetween the bombastic, spectacular music performances, as nice "ear breaks" BUT, I have issues: - the film was about an hour too long - the conversations were endless, mutual ass-kissing fests that made me cringe, very little in the way of natural conversation - I'm not a fan of the concert arrangements. They're noisy overkills. I wish he had performed the cues closer to their original, leaner album versions. The INTERSTELLAR addition of vocals and electric guitar feel particularly unnecessary for a score that is so powerful in its original organ+synths version. Wish they used the 2017 concert versions instead - too much post-millennium stuff in general In many ways, it echoes my misgivings about his 2022 concert series compared to the far superior 2017 concert series. My dream scenario for a Zimmer concert or concert film -- an intimate venue, just Zimmer and a couple of guys on-stage, mostly using synths and some solo performers, focus being primarily on that aforementioned period (80s up to 2003-ish at the latest), with lean versions of things like GREEN CARD, BEYOND RANGOON, RAIN MAN, K2, POINT OF NO RETURN etc. THEN we'd be talking. THEN this would probably be a 5 out of 5 experience for me.

The arrangements are much closer to the original ones and the overall experience is more of my taste even though Zimmer himself is only present on the big screen in between the musical numbers.

He is on radio 3 this coming Saturday at 4pm. Also Debbie Wiseman and someone else whose name escapes me.

I've also realised quite some time ago that similar to Tarantino, I like (most of) the man's work but find him quite insufferable as a person. I saw both the 2017 as well as the 2022 shows and agree that the 2017 was a better and more diverse show.
