In the mid-seventies Barry said in an interview he destroys any copies he can find of him singing. I thought that was hyperbole until I heard a radio interview from the nineties. I think it was some station in long Island. The interviewer told Barry he was going to play the record and Barry said he'd destroy it if he did. The interviewer began playing it and JB got up and smashed the record.

I didn't know and now after watching a few minutes of that, I wish I didn't know again.

Yeah this is pretty old news. About 65 years old in fact! He could not sing. I hate it everytime this comes up. So did he. This was right at the beginning of his career. Well before his career as a film composer started. Cheers

He's no Patrick Doyle, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting based on the comments here. I'm glad he moved on to something else, though. Yavar

By the way, is there only 1 cd where we have the track The more things change ? It is on many CDs, starting with OOP Ready When You Are, J.B. Also on several compilations, including the one called The More Things Change. The vocal by Nina Van Pallandt has not been released on CD.

Is it his only song ! I will try to find Jerry Goldsmith singing sonething and then Bernard Herrmann. No, several songs can be found on "The EMI Years, Vol. 1" - later re-issued as disk 1 in "The Bee's Knees."

Quincy Jones sang on a few of his A&M albums starting with Smackwater Jack. He wasn't terribly good or bad, so why bother? One of the songs he sings on the above album is "What's Going On?" His vocals are okay and thankfully don't get in the way of his stunning arrangement. As catchy as it gets, and his settings for the brief but remarkable solos show why he was one of the best arrangers ever.

I'm not sure, if you are aware, but John Barry (re-)recorded some of his stuff for Columbia and Polydor - the Columbia recordings being the earlier ones and are usually closer to the original recordings. Of the titles mentioned above, only "The More Things Change" and "Themependium" contain stuff licensed from a variety of labels (including UMG). The other three titles only contain material from the Sony catalog (so, zero duplication with the Polydor set) - "John Barry plays is Greatest Movie Hits" is even a straight re-issue of a Columbia/CBS LP.
