I ask, because I see so many "ordered" comments on everything, and lots of people participating in Kickstarters and all kinds of stuff.

I've had to (more or less) stop channeling money into film music-related products in the last 10 years, due to "the four threats", as I call them, which I did a thread on over on CT here:

https://celluloidtunes.no/forums/topic/the-four-threats-and-tariffs/

It's not my business to dig into your personal economies, but it's something that I think about quite often here on FSM.

How do you cope with everyday expenses compared to film music items? Do you have an alloted pot?

No, not rich. I still live with my parents and I'm in my 40s. I have a regular job, not very well paid but a job's a job so I can't complain.

My days of buying CDs is mostly over due to the expense of ordering from abroad (though I found some very cheap new BSX Tangerine Dream soundtracks last month, so bought those).

I dont regard myself as being rich, but I dont have any money worries, and can more-or-less buy whatever soundtracks come out that I want. But I dont go on holiday much, dont smoke, dont drink, dont gamble, I dont spend much on clothes, dont drive (but my wife does) and no longer have a mortgage - apart from buying cds, dvds and going out for a meal once a week I dont have many other treats, that I can mention, anyway.

I'm just glad that I bought everything I could over the past 40 years, when I had plenty of disposable income. If I wanted to start collecting the same music today (including a "complete Jerry Goldsmith"), there'd be no way I could afford that.

I'm mostly a Golden Age/Silver Age guy, so there's very little in terms of new releases that I care about. 95 % of my must-have titles have been released and are residing in my collection.

I also switched completely to digital, converted my entire CD collection and only buy CDs now if there is no download option.

I think I bought maybe two CDs last year, supported two kickstarters (with a modest pledge for digital download only) and bought maybe ten downloads, so for now this hobby remains affordable to me. There's just no way I would buy expensive box sets or rarities these days like I did until about ten years ago.

There was a fellow here at FSM who routinely posted his weekly community-sized laundry lists of score purchases. I don't know how he ever found the time to listen to them or the place to store it, but nice work if you can get it.

As for me: not rich, and I don't buy much of anything anymore. Never had children and my mortgage and car payment are things of the past, sort of like good film music.

I do all right for myself working in education, but it helps that I'm in a DINO (dual income, no kids) household. And, geographically, I'm in the USA, which means worse government on every level but also lower shipping rates and no import fees from the labels based here. I'm also super picky, anymore, only purchasing things that I have a high degree of interest of FOMO about.

The way I see it, buying 1-2 CDs a month takes the place of a drinking habit and is much easier to manage financially big grin

I'm rich in spirit, personality, humour, wit, likability and warmth. Comfortable in cash. So far I haven't flaunted and wasted my hard earned cash on idle pleasures , such as women. I don't go in holiday, either. Also, in the last 5/6 years I've given up the booze, not t total just don't bother. The main reason I stopped was because my dad, now 86, started falling over more , even when sober. Oh I still live with my parents. And no kids.

I turned 62 yesterday and am getting ready to retire in the next year. I wouldn't say I'm rich but I've always been good at managing my money and saving large amounts of cash and have zero credit card debt.

Never married. No children. No car. That's how I save money. smile Some call it a minimalist lifestyle. I call it normal.

I've been fortunate enough to enjoy good health my entire life so I've never had health insurance expenses.

It's really very simple. Add up your monthly take-home pay. Add up your monthly expenses. Put the remainder in the bank. It's the way I've always lived.

Happy Birthday my friend! I don’t have a wife or children either, not by choice, but who would marry me?

At age 72, I've already acquired just about everything I need. In fact, given that I'm in the so-called 4th quarter of my life, I'm getting rid of things. I don't want to burden my survivors with the task of dealing with my stuff, most of which they wouldn't care to have. I learned this once when I gave nieces and nephews some family heirlooms that I thought they would enjoy having. The first thing they did was go to eBay and research what the items might sell for. I'm very comfortable financially but I wouldn't say I'm rich. Being a DINO household has allowed us to save more than our counterparts with children.

The Intrada Facebook page is worse. People posing their acquisitions and they are piles of CDs.

I haven't bought a CD since the $15 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny score. I ain't got the cash for this stuff anymore.

Anyways, 99.9% of the music I want was released. So I'm good by this point.

Don't think like that. Be positive. There's always someone stupid around the corner, you just have to bump into them. smile
