Oh, Jason, you have ruined the surprise and anticipation for Friday, instead thank you for a wonderful Thursday surprise!
I already IS Friday in New Zealand, Australia, and many other countries. If you live there you can legally purchase and listen to these albums right now. This is an international mesage board. Are people from these countries supposed to pretend these albums don't exist until it clicks over to Friday in Europe and North America?

Since this and the other release are both Warner Bros - are these Varese in Perp, titles - or does this mean that stuff from Warner is on the table again? Pretty certain these are Varese in Perp titles, as have been all the other Warner Bros. expansions Varese has put out since 2020 (which is a fairly substantial number; I'm pretty sure Jason LeBlanc has been keeping track!) Varese is able to expand Warner Bros titles for which they own perpetuity rights Great list of titles; thanks for keeping track of it Jason! Ironic that for many years we lamented Varese's perpetuity rights agreements because it meant so many scores could *only* be expanded by them (and they did so at a relatively slow pace)... and now we have a reason to be grateful for those same agreements because without them, *nobody* could expand these WB scores! I pretty much buy every release with Mancini's name on it, but sorry to say, this one is an insult. Asking customers to spend money on what should have been fixed in the first place? Then calling it "Deluxe." What is Deluxe about it? That they fixed the error they made on the previous release. Not a single second of additional music. Don't get me wrong: I think this is an important score and it deserves to be in print, but if they had added at least a few bonus tracks. I really don't want to upset anybody and it's great that they have finally fixed what is wrong in the first edition, but it would have been nice if some extra effort had been put into this release.

The wording of "The Deluxe Encore Edition" is indeed odd, since it doesn't feature any new music relative to the original release (barring, presumably, the restoration of the dulcimer overlay). The old 2CD set was already quite generous in length (maybe the complete score, if there was nothing added here?) but wasn't itself branded as "Deluxe Edition" at the time, because it was the premiere release. So why not just call this an "Encore Edition", even with that fix? (Previous Encore Editions were remastered, even if that remastering wasn't an improvement. Some featured split cues for albums that had previously been only two long tracks.) Yavar

Ok, i heard a few tracks of the new Edition on Spotify. The main title now has the dulcimer Track intact, but… is it me, or are the dulcimer is still missing in Track 3 „Drogheda“ in the first few bars?… Andreas

Physical edition for up sale: https://varesesarabande.com/collections/cd/products/the-thorn-birds-deluxe-encore-edition-cd Henry Mancini The Thorn Birds (Deluxe Encore Edition) CD Release Date: May 2, 2025 Regular price$ 25.00 Varèse Sarabande presents a Deluxe Encore Edition of the 2CD soundtrack to The Thorn Birds, Henry Mancini’s television masterpiece. The Thorn Birds became the second-highest rated miniseries of all time when it aired in March 1983, behind only Roots. Based on the 1977 book by Colleen McCullough, the four-part program told the multigenerational story of the Cleary family, settlers in the Australian Outback of the early to mid-20th century, and the forbidden love of matriarch Meggie Cleary (Rachel Ward) and the family priest, Father Ralph de Briscassart (Richard Chamberlain). The all-star production won six Emmys, with a further ten nominations including Mancini’s score. For a career full of landmark achievements in television—from Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky to the miniseries The Moneychangers—The Thorn Birds is Mancini’s crown jewel. His score is as intimate as it is epic, with a lilting, Irish-flavored dulcimer theme for the Cleary family’s Irish roots and the beauty of the Australian countryside, as well as a bittersweet love theme, given lyrics by Will Jennings as “Anywhere the Heart Goes.” From the haunting moments of introspection to the large-scale setpieces, The Thorn Birds is as good as it gets. Varèse Sarabande’s 2-CD Deluxe Encore Edition corrects the missing dulcimer melody of the main title from the original 2004 release, and is remastered for better sound and careful removal of sonic artifacts. Liner notes are by television music authority Jon Burlingame. Features: Produced by: Robert Townson Deluxe Edition Executive Producer for Varese Sarabande Records: Cary E. Hopefully with missing overdubs restored... But since this is Varese... well... will have to wait for the confirmation. The missing overdub in the first track is there (fortunately). But, unfortunately, this is what I've read somewhere: The first 15 seconds of track 3 (Drogheda) is still missing the dulcimer overlay. Track 34 is still missing an important melodic keyboard overlay from 1:52 to 2:06. Less significantly, track 46, "Ralph Dies," is missing its introductory bars (7 seconds), and a further 20 seconds (merely a sustained chord) for the actually moment of death.
