Mondo Vision just released their long-awaited presentation of Andrzej Zulawski's NA SREBRNYM GLOBIE (On The Silver Globe) an epic adaptation of his great-uncle's The Lunar Trilogy. The Limited Edition comes with a CD of the first official release of the score by Zulawski's favored composer, Andrzej Korzynski.
This is an epic score - it's very eclectic; there's some lush orchestral stirrings, haunting voice and synth work on the main theme. In addition, there's some very funky experimental jazz going on. It sounds like a mess - but it's very cohesive in the film and a great listening experience in this release.
I hope that Finders Keepers label will make this available wider - they've released Korzynki's scores for Zulaski's previous films DIABEL and THE THIRD PART OF THE NIGHT.
This is such a crazy film. I saw this with two other colleagues a few years ago, after which we did a podcast episode on it (in Norwegian, so no point sharing it here). There are lot of LOL moments in it (those background actors, man!), but at the same time, you got to love the sheer ambition of it all. Kind of a grand folly.
I have no memory of the score off the top of my head, but I'm intrigued to check it out.
