The feature film version of the 1980s TV hit THE DUKES OF HAZZARD was just what you would expect it to be--an extended, super-sized version of the TV show. The Duke cousins - "Bo" (Seann William Scott) and "Luke" (Johnny Knoxville) - live a casually immoral life in the backwoods of Georgia, running illicit hooch for their wily "Uncle Jessie" (Willie Nelson) before retiring to the watering hole where shapely "Daisy Duke" (Jessica Simpson) tends bar. But things will change if the evil "Boss Hogg" (Burt Reynolds) has his way and turns Hazzard into a coal mine. Can the boys save the day, their home, and Jessie's booze, and beat all-comers in the county's annual road rally? Joe Don Baker has a small role as “Governor Jim Applewhite” in the film.

After the success of the 'Starsky & Hutch' film, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were offered the roles of Luke and Bo Duke. Neither accepted the offer, as they did not feel it paid tribute to the original series as Starsky & Hutch did.

Similarly, the original Dukes - Tom Wopat, John Schneider, and Catherine Bach - were all offered cameos in this movie. All three declined because they had read the screenplay and hated it.

Jay Chandrasekhar directed the film. Nathan Barr's score has appeared only as a composer promo. The commercial CD released by Columbia/Sony Music Soundtrax was strictly a country rock affair. THE DUKES OF HAZZARD cost $50 million to produce and did moderate business, ranking #26 at the box office for 2005 and grossing $111 million worldwide.

Ooooh, that was a terrible, terrible movie. But then I did never like the TV-show, sorry fans.

In the 2013 drama MUD, two young boys (Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland) encounter the fugitive “Mud” (Matthew McConaughey) and form a pact to help him evade the vigilantes that are on his trail and to reunite him with his true love, “Juniper” (Reese Witherspoon). Mud explains that he killed a man who had gotten Juniper pregnant and pushed her down a flight of stairs, causing her to lose the child. But the brother—“Carver” (Paul Sparks)—and father—“King” (Joe Don Baker)—of the man Mud killed are looking for him.

Jeff Nichols wrote and directed MUD, which won the award for best ensemble cast at the Independent Spirit Awards. David Wingo’s score was released by Lakeshore Records. The $10 million production was successful, grossing $32.6 million worldwide.

MUD was Joe Don Baker’s final film appearance.

Joe Don Baker had his first experience as an actor as a senior at North Texas State College. In 1994, his alma mater (by then renamed the University of North Texas) presented Baker with its Distinguished Alumni Award.

More of a character actor than a leading man, Joe Don Baker parlayed his lead role of Buford Pusser in WALKING TALL into a 40-year screen career, during which he was always a welcome presence for audiences. Farewell, Joe Don.
