'Sons of Scotland' It's all about this piece for me.
When the 'Freedom' theme takes centre stage after only being hinted at throughout the film, well I think that was when I fell in love with James Horner's music. It's a moment in cinema where music and image combine to create something so stirring and perfect for that crucial scene, well it just takes your breath away.
In what is now a very cliched 'battle speech' scene, it could of been scored that way, but Horner, the master of emotion, goes to the core of the scene, heightening it with pathos and conviction. And the score is full of moments like this. An incredible work.
