La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures proudly present UNION PACIFIC: THE PARAMOUNT WESTERNS COLLECTION, VOL 2, a deluxe 4-CD soundtrack collection of original film score recordings from Paramount Pictures’ big-screen westerns: UNION PACIFIC (1939), THE VIRGINIAN (1946), BLUE (1968), CALIFORNIA (1947), THE PALEFACE (1948), THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962), RED MOUNTAIN (1951), THE LONELY MAN (1957), and THE TIN STAR (1957), and suites from TEXAS RANGERS RIDE AGAIN (1940), TOMBSTONE: THE TOWN TOO TOUGH TO DIE (1942), WHISPERING SMITH (1948), THE REDHEAD AND THE COWBOY (1951) and RUN FOR COVER (1955).

Meticulously restored from Paramount Pictures’ vault elements, this exciting compilation features original score recordings from fourteen of the studio’s western features spanning the course of three decades. Several of these recordings are making their world premiere here, others are expanded beyond previous releases, and many contain material not heard in their respective films. It’s a vast frontier of musical treasures, revealing Hollywood’s top Golden Age maestros at the peak of their powers, working in a legendary genre. Composers John Leipold, Victor Young, Leo Shuken, Charles Bradshaw, Daniele Amfitheatrof, Manos Hadjidakis, Cyril Mockridge, Franz Waxman, Nathan Van Cleave, Elmer Bernstein, Gerard Carbonara, Adolph Deutsch, David Buttolph and Howard Jackson are showcased here, their music encompassing an exhilarating variety, from big orchestral movements to spare and intimate moments – and everything in-between.

Produced by John Takis and Frank K. DeWald, with audio restoration by Chris Malone, this special 4-disc collection is limited to 1000 units and features a 36-page booklet with exclusive, in-depth liner notes written by the producers. Dan Goldwasser’s art design lassos the packaging together in classic fashion.

I've been spending an awful lot in assorted sales lately, but there's no way I'm missing out on this gem. This is EXACTLY the type of release I constantly await and so seldom see these days. Thank you LLL.

Unexpected release! Great to see the score by Waxman and and a remastered version of "Blue" by Hadjidakis included. It's an excellent score.

Amazing, so many favourites and wanted titles, Union Pacific, Red Mountain, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and the original film versions of Blue (dreams do come true). Thank you La La Land and Paramount. Ordered!

Looks great, although I think there are a few items that have been released by Kritzerland before. I wonder why they were included in this box set.

Looks great, although I think there are a few items that have been released by Kritzerland before. I wonder why they were included in this box set.

A few reasons! One is that considerable time has passed and some of those titles had gotten hard to come by. And Chris Malone has worked his usual restoration magic, taking advantage of the latest technology to offer improved sound. Additionally...

THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE has been resequenced to more closely focus on the score. (A lot of the source music, including the shorter and more fragmentary pieces, is now presented in the bonus section.) There are also two previously unreleased source tracks.

THE LONELY MAN restores the score to its original configuration -- some cues were moved around in the final film edit -- and also adds a bit of previously unreleased music and new bonus material. More of the score is now in stereo.

Bernstein's THE TIN STAR is considerably expanded from its prior release! And it is mostly in stereo.

A few vocal versions from VALANCE and LONELY MAN were unable to be included for this release. In each case, however, we have included alternate instrumental tracks that are unique to this set.

I hope you'll be pleased, Ray! There are some heavy hitters here, but I'm especially delighted that we were able to include music by composers like John Leipold, Gerard Carbonara and Howard Jackson, who are criminally unrepresented on disc.

I think it's great that in this day and age, LLL has the cojones to release a CD set like this, considering that these are, for the most part, very under-represented composers without much of a fan base. I hope this gamble pays off for them.

Ordered immediately. If there were awards for vintage soundtrack releases, this would surely receive one. For those of us who are enamored with the scores of westerns, this is absolutely amazing. Kudos to the nth degree.

Same! Coffee is sitting untouched in the pot while I just ordered this beauty. I was floored to see a volume 2 of this Westerns Collection.

It's amazing to me that we get physical releases of these older scores. I would imagine that they barely recoup their cost to produce.
