For octopussy that is but probabbly also Kill and Daylights

there are - so far - 5 or 6 percussionist depending on what is needed to be done

for the opening gunbarrel theme in the bond theme

when I listen to the music:

1 for timpani in the cues that includes the bond theme - could double for other percusseb instrunments though

1 snare-drum

1 bass drum - this person could go to the gong for B-section unless there is bass drum på every bass line on 2 and 4 which on contrabass have ½pizz and ½ bowed

1 triangle

1 finger-cymbals - this person could go to the gong for B-section

1 tambourine

that is what I get from listening and from the fact that even if they move fast they cannot get to the other instrument fast without delay or noise

5 or 6 would be required to handle the music

You want it. I'm not listening to something right now. Turn on your cd-player. Hit me with all the power of your favorite Gunbarrel music and your journey towards Bond music will be complete.

You've left out the crash cymbals at the start! That player could be doubling the gong or timpani. Some percussionists play the crash cymbal with one hand along with a mounted cymbal and the bass drum with the the other hand if there are too many parts and not enough players, but I doubt that would have been the case here. From experience, it's a fun way to play!

Can you point me to where the finger cymbals are? I don't hear them.

I believe you Call it Crash cymbals

They are at the very start. Most prominent in the left side of the stereo field on octopussy

It’s a cymbal with both hånds used. There are 4 hit in all in the gunbarrel theme part

Yes, those are what I'm talking about. Thanks for the clarification. I know there are also finger cymbals on the Octopussy soundtrack, at least on the track 'Distraction'.

i have worked with the JB version of the JB theme for several years trying to get it right

I have made several progression to how it should be on sheet and i can make a sheet of the opeining percussion section if of you like

i am not sure but actually snare drum could go to tambourine if it is hitted with sticks - that would be easier than having it in hand but i don't know - so far i am sepataring those untel i know more

In Moonraker the snare and tambourine are played together in the gunbarrel, so there they are separate. While there are some big changes between Moonraker and Barry's next three gunbarrels, I tend to assume there's more that's similar than different. To me, it sounds like the tambourine is played by hand in all of them.

I can hear bass drum in Moonraker and A View to a Kill, but not in the other gunbarrels. A View to a Kill doesn't have tambourine. Moonraker doesn't have crash cymbals. I think in every case, all the parts can be played by four percussionists.
