I'm six tracks into this hypnotic new video game score from the highly underrated Knut Avenstroup Haugan, and so far, this is one of the top 3 scores I've heard this year. It's a mix of Tron Legacy meets Interstellar meets Zimmer's Dune meets Vangelis... and it's utterly gorgeous!
It's written within Zimmer's Dune musical landscape but Haugen makes it his own! Sublime!
I've also been mainlining this soundtrack and it's a contender among my favorites of the year so far. It is definitely a superb entry into the musical "canon" that Frank Herbert's world has given us for decades. The track "Welcome to Arrakis" is absolutely sublime. A rousing melody alongside a synth arpeggio that is reminiscent of Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy.
Knut has talked about this for a while, so I was very curious to finally check it out. It's bloody excellent! Perhaps 20 minutes too long, but nothing a little whittling can't fix.
