https://jaws50music.com has been launched, which is a landing page and portal for all of the 50th anniversary JAWS soundtrack releases. (Some may recall something similar for the Back to the Future releases ten years ago.) As most of you know, there are TWO recordings of John Williams’ indelible music for Steven Spielberg’s classic… the Academy Award-winning “Original Motion Picture Score,” coming from Back Lot Music and Universal Studios, and the separately made album recording: the GRAMMY-winning “Music From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack,” coming from Universal Music Enterprises and Geffen Records/Interscope. It was my privilege to undertake the restoration, remixing and remastering of both recordings. YES, the first generation multi-track of the album recording was located. YES, there will be a “Special Edition” CD release from Intrada coming soon that will present both recordings and feature previously unreleased tracks. More news and updates to come.

I thought the old 2CD set was everything (and un-used score), with bonus material and the MCA album remastered? I don't keep up one this stuff, and due to finances, this is a title I was never able to acquire back before the 2CD sold out, even though it's one of my most beloved scores.

Damn it every time I think I'm out of the water, they drag me back in again.... You can ignore this particular release, until it swims up and bites you on the ass.

I thought the old 2CD set was everything (and un-used score), with bonus material and the MCA album remastered? IIRC, Mike said at the time of that release that Williams had nixed the inclusion of some of his original source music cues which did survive on the film recording materials. Perhaps with this new edition those will be included? Williams did relent and allow more of his original Superman source music to be released on one of the three discs in LLL's Superman II/III release, even though it was left off of their release of the original score. Also, as the first generation MCA album recording multitracks have been uncovered, it seems possible that there might be some alternate takes available to include for that separate recording session as well. Heck, maybe even an additional cue or two is possible -- look at how Lukas discovered a fifth (previously-unreleased) track for the unique album recording of Goldsmith's The Prize, when he uncovered earlier-generation masters for that recording: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/detail.cfm/cdID/452/ Or (though these were both taken from the original film recordings, not new recordings for album) Intrada was able to include additional tracks uncovered on an earlier generation album tape source on their most recent revisits of In Harm's Way and The Secret of NIMH (these had been cues under consideration for inclusion on the original albums, but ultimately omitted on them). I'm certainly looking forward to hearing more details about the new Intrada edition! Yavar

Any new finds that improve upon one the greatest film scores ever written (and one of the best re-recordings done by a composer, ever) is always welcomed for a reason to re-issue. I only hope one day I can own this. Donate my old MCA and Decca expansion to the library and let people chum on that.
