If only the remastered tracks had formed the basis for a new Atmos remix of the film itself for the 50th Anniversary re-release of the film in theaters, streaming and on disc.
How about a Dolby Atmos engineered Blu ray wtih music only release? I'd like that!
The issue for a Dolby Atmos score mix is that the existing film recording is 3 track only, which limits the effectiveness of the expansion to Atmos for the music. But I’d love a new Atmos sound mix for the film with the score from these improved sources (as even the Atmos score for the 4K is from a score mix from before the 2015 Matessino restoration - with the wrong/only usable at the time, take of “Man Against Beast”). I would love if Matessino could participante in a new Atmos mix more faithful to the original sound effects and with the music improved, even considering the limitations of the 3-track (like he did for ST: TMP 4K directors cut).
The album recording however…. having 1st gen multitracks available could be released in full glorious Atmos - hope this happens at least for the digital releases (if not for an SACD or BluRay audio).
I'm with you on all the above. The only caveat would be that the original Oscar winning mono mix always be available as an option as well for any release of the film.
I also wish the same thing for Close Encounters. The music doesn't sound particularly good on any of the existing video releases of the film.
I think it is reasonable to assume that Jaws and Close Encounters, both adventure classics that will never go out of print, have yet to reach their final Spielberg-supervised Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision forms, for both big-screen exhibition and home video.
Please forgive my ignorance. It has probably been explained already... but I'm at a place right now where i cant concentrate and go through all the pages, lol!
But what is the difference between "Original Film Score" and "Soundtrack Album Recording"?
Is the first one the complete score used in the movie with Film Versions etc? And the second the first original soundtrack from back in the day which had a selection of the score?

Two completely different recordings: one for the film and one for the 1975 soundtrack album.

And to add to that… while the film recording has some music not present on the album recording, Williams took the opportunity to slightly expand and rework some pieces for the album, so they are more whole musical pieces and not beholden to film timings.
Thanx for explaining! So it would be worth owning both then if I dont have any editions. I see the CD version will have both, so I'll be getting that once its released.
