I returned from holiday yesterday to find this release in my mailbox and have played it twice through with great enjoyment. I find the score benefits from the expansion, with the (very) loud moments offset with quieter passages.
Whilst it is of course everyone's right to approach these things in their own way, I find the highly technical analysis of any given disc specification completely at odds with my own approach, which is to listen to the music.
Of the "flaws" listed, only the overlappping track on disc 2 warrants discussion in my view. Here you have 50 seconds of quiet music with a layered motif overlapping, a motif which is in any case featured in the music of the continuing track. It's not worth putting people off purchasing the discs if they enjoy the overall score.
Excellent notes add to the package. And yes, I appreciate I may be the perfect customer for Varese...
I’ve listened to the version on Apple Music and didn’t hear any mistakes.
I don't see how. Listen to the samples I provided and that'll give you an idea of the layering issue at least. As for the tracks with mono audio, you might need headphones to tell the difference.
