Speaking for myself as a backer, given the current realities on the ground, I’d absolutely support any reasonable solution that Jeff may be able to come up with. I too really just want these books to exist as a real thing. Hopefully at the other end of this mess, it will be possible to read them as an ebook (my own preference) and/or physical copy. Beyond that, I personally consider my KS sunk cost as a loss. I wish I had a crystal ball to see how all of this will wash out a year from now.

But in speaking to one of Taylor's associates in the past few days it sounds like Taylor was in tremendous debt--far, far more than the amount he took in from the kickstarter. So I don't think it's any great mystery where the money went.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
So wait, he used the Kickstarter money just to put a dent in a debt that he knew he’d never be able to pay off anyway? How stupid is this guy? Didn’t he know that he’d just make the situation worse by making 1444 people angry in addition to his still being in debt?

I for one, am not going to give up on the notion that White can come up with the money to publish the books. At least, I am not giving up until one thing happens--he declares bankruptcy. Until then, there is always the possibility that he can sell assets, take out another mortgage on his house, borrow money, or do something else to raise the funds.

Whatever his financial situation is, it appears as if he has not filed for bankruptcy. I have just conducted an online search of Federal bankruptcy cases through PACER (Public Access To Court Electronic Records), and there is no record of any bankruptcy case filed by anyone named Taylor White in California, or by the Monolith Collective or Creature Features anywhere.

Just to check the veracity of the system, I tried to find the bankruptcy case filed by Tim and Donna Lucas of Video Watchdog fame. And there it was, filed in Ohio back in 2016. So I feel confident in stating that White has not yet filed for bankruptcy. Until he does, we should keep the pressure on.

Look, the real question is who will compose the film based on the tell all book?

I still retain the rights to the books obviously. I would like to just put them up on Amazon POD so that they are available--I'd like to do it at cost, as Amazon takes a considerable chunk but that way no one would make any money off the sales and people could get them at a considerable discount if they want them. I realize this is an imperfect solution but at least the books would exist. I seriously doubt that Taylor has, or will ever have, the money to print the books and in any case I would obviously prefer that someone else handle them going forward. But I'll have to work out the details. I don't care if the Goldsmith books ever make another dime, I'd just like them to physically exist.

I would certainly be in for that!

Hey, Jeff! I own several of your books and really admire and appreciate you coming on here and speaking to what is going on and what you know.

One slightly non-related question...where does this situation put the revised and updated The Music Of Star Trek book that was mentioned as coming to Kickstarter after the completion of the Goldsmith book?

If Jeff needs help with Amazon, I'm here to help. I've done all books' eBooks and I know the process well. They do have very specific specs that must be followed for hard and softcovers. I don't use Amazon for those for my books, but I know people who have.

I did sign bookplates, believe me. This whole thing was a slow-rolling disaster with constant signs from Taylor that the finish line was always in sight. Honestly I still don't understand why he did the bookplates and had me track down the addresses of people we were planning to deliver complimentary copies to given what was going on. But in speaking to one of Taylor's associates in the past few days it sounds like Taylor was in tremendous debt--far, far more than the amount he took in from the kickstarter. After reviewing Jeff Bond’s recent post, our small organizing group behind The 1444 are happy to support him if this is the path he chooses to pursue. Jeff has offered to provide updated PDF files of the JGC to any pledge donor who contacts him directly and he is working on making the JGC available for pledge donors to print at cost via Amazon.com. Details to follow.

That said, we continue to encourage all pledge donors to file a complaint using the links previously provided. We also remain available to answer any questions you might have regarding this situation.

Thank you.
