Hello All, I had to take a temporary pause with my re-creations of the score to "Twilight's Last Gleaming" and the editing of on an episode for the Goldsmith Odyssey to bring news about an upcoming movie from Troma and the score I composed for it. Yes, Troma, the same production company behind the original Toxic Avenger franchise, Nuke 'Em High, Terror Firmer, Poultry Geist (and many more) has a new movie coming. It is a huge departure from the films traditionally associated with Troma (over the top gore and sex). It is a film noir murder mystery / dark comedy set in modern day but shot like it is Sunset Blvd and is all in black and white. I was hired to score the film with a mixture of various jazz styles while still creating a tailored score to support the narrative drama. I did not come up with a bunch of jazz cues for them to simply temp the movie with. I created a musical architecture consisting of several themes and motifs and developed them over the course of the film - much like how my idol Jerry Goldsmith did on his compositions. There were a bunch of revisions as I did not get to work with a locked picture as the version I worked with kept getting scenes moved around or trimmed. Luckily, most of what I did survived. While alternates were created (and there were plenty) many were simple revisions, but several did entail a whole new composition. Also, I created a bunch of source cues for use in the backgrounds of several scenes as a back-up if they were unable to acquire certain songs. Additionally, I assembled a complete score album that I mixed, edited but will be mastered professionally by someone I know in the coming weeks. In the meantime, enjoy some highlights from the score via the link below: https://scoredbymateo.com/the-power-of-positive-murder

Thanks for posting - good title, and I'm enjoying the samples of your score! It's got a nice, classic vibe, but with enough distinctiveness that it kept me listening. Really appreciate you sharing. Interested in the movie from the title and music alone. Though I've never been a Troma afficianado, this might change my mind.
