A new take on the old King (Bachman) novella. I generally love Edgar Wright films, but this doesn't look so good (the Arnie one was terrible too). Very unlikeable characters on show, it seems (I'd like to see them all dead, based on that trailer). His regular composer has generally been Oscar winner Price, so we'll see on that one.
Based on the trailers so far, the other dystopian King tale - THE LONG WALK - looks much more promising.
This trailer convinces me that the film is taking the approach of going back to the Richard Bachman book but with the approach of the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This might be the right idea. The book is angry and pessimistic and the new film could use the satirical tongue in cheek edge to sell the darkest ideas here. I haven't truly enjoyed an Edgar Wright movie in a very long time, however. I really loved Steven Price's score for Last Night in Soho so I hope he could cook up something worthwhile for this.
The trailer is a noisy mess, can't really comment much because of that. Looks like it might be an enjoyable film. But if it's crapped all over with a Gravity style score with chugging generic garbage by Price, it'll be too painful to watch.
I have never understood why people can`t see the good in remakes. Apparently I am the only one. Anyway here it goes:
There is one good thing about remakes that most people forget and that is because of the remake people can discover the original one. Look, I`ll take myself as an example. When Steven Soderbergh announced his Ocean`s Eleven remake I seeked out the original one because I had never seen it only heard of it before. I would certainly never have seen the original one if Soderbergh (or anyone else for that matters) had`nt done the remake.
So if you love a movie that gets a remake then you can bet that a new and young generation that did not seen the original one will find out and discover the original one so they can watch and enjoy the original one just because Hollywood decided to remake it.
Think about that next time you say something negative about remakes. I bet you had no idea about this.
And so far I could not understand the appeal of Powell.
This trailer made me realize that he is not just a pretty boy but is actually very versatile.
I think he has a lot of the same appeal Kurt Russell would have in his prime. He's much too handsome for his own good, but he has a wit and a devilish nature that is for the taking with the right script and director. I first noticed him in Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!! and he really stuck with me in that. Like most actors that have an eye-catching break out, sometimes it takes a while for them to find that proper footing. Powell collaborated again with Linklater for Hit Man last year; a criminally underseen film. An existential hit man narrative (think Jean-Pierre Melville) hidden inside a sure-footed Romantic Comedy where the two leads have undeniable chemistry.

Right! I wanted to see than film anyway, with Linklater being such an interesting filmmaker.
Its just one of the weaker stories by King. The Schwarzenegger one was awful acting ..art direction..set direction ( was there a set???...music...everything...so this probably is way better so who knows... THE LONG WALK looks much more promising though.
Faltermeyer scoring a major Hollywood film would really be a weird choice. The last time they brought him out of retirement things didn't really go very smooth.
"Why don’t you find the main character likeable?" --------------------- Well, WillGo, it's a purely personal and subjective thing with me. I'm sure he's a lovely bloke in real life, but I just can't take to him when I see him onscreen. He was good as the arrogant. smug pilot in MAVERICK TG2 and you're not supposed to like him in that, I guess. But he seems to be channelling a similar mood in this film (from the trailer at least) and I expected (wanted?) someone more humble or vulnerable. But we'll see when I view the film (as I say...big fan of Edgar Wright...SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, BABY DRIVER and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO are four of my absolute favourite films of this century).

I see - you mean the actor. I thought you did not like the main character.

Or, to quote another member of the fourm:
"[…] hire a composer who is clearly out of touch with the current Hollywood climate and working methods."
