Craziest day yesterday, the "Oslo Culture Night".

Started off in the morning with a press screening of AD ASTRA in the biggest cinema in Norway (and in comfy chairs too). See the AD ASTRA thread for comments. Followed by a visit to to the Norwegian Music Academy -- with the symphony orchestra brilliantly performing Stravinsky's FIREBIRD and Ravels' DAPHNE & CHLOÉ. Then on to a piano concert closeby (Grieg, Mozart, Lutoslawski), the "Autumn Exhibition" with contemporary art at Kunsternes Hus (directly translated "The Artists' House), a choir in a subterrenean cave, a jazz concert, a visit to the roof of the Opera house with live poetry and spectacular wall projections, and then finally Gregorian chants at the Oslo Cathedral into the night.

Today, I've mostly stayed home and gotten drunk. A bottle of red wine, 4 strong beers (Stocholm's again), and various Tuborg easy beers. Have an Otard cognac lined up. While watching movies.

Events. The End.

Just watched a typically-delightful episode of Give My Head Peace ("In the Name of the Father"; Series 8 Episode 3) and was thrilled to see that "Uncle Andy" drinks Carlsberg!

Though he normally drinks Harp, and most alarmingly, Tennent's.

"Hell into Belfast", indeed. big grin

I need some advice. I drank gorgeous Spanish Rioja non-stop since Friday afternoon until late last night (or this morning). I haven't had a drink all day because I want to be sharp and fresh for work tomorrow. But on the other hand I'm beginning to feel a bit depressed thinking about getting into the work routine tomorrow. Should I go out and buy another bottle? You'll have to be quick - the shop closes soon. Only serious advice please - no shit from doctors or people who care about their health. Thanx!

No, probably not. Now that I've passed 40, I find that hangovers can last several days (I certainly think this one will). If memory serves, you're a tad bit older than me, so you probably get it worse than I even. Just pain your way through another work week, and there are glorious beverages waiting on the other side!

Ha, ha. Ok, then. Enjoy! I had a Sunday binge a couple of weeks ago. Underrated, and kinda gratifying to go "against society's norms" now and then.

GMHP parodies Planet of the Apes in the episode "The Producers" to hilarious-to-me effect.

Begins 25:55 (and they use Goldsmith's music):

A sudden bout of 'Indian Summer' is hitting Oslo this weekend, with temps around 20 C, before it's back to typical 10-14 in the coming week. Gotta make the best of it, with beverages on my balcony. Nothing special planned in terms of beverage types, but I desperately need to get sloshed after a shitty week.

Have a can of Krombacher Pils on hand--sort of the "Queen Beer" to the Carlsberg "Worker Beers." I usually have it on draught (draft) at my local German restaurant, but the canned version is startlingly close to the keg version; perhaps a bit drier. That might speak volumes about the quality of this beer, but I like it quite a lot.

Chicken Vindaloo tonight. No social occasion (surprise), but the weather is changing to a "Summer Lite", despite it being the peak of hurricane season. Looking forward to the end of summer, as always.

Kinda exhausted after watching my toddler niece and nephew for five hours. Winding down with a great Chicken Bali pot. On to some Tuborg beers (nothing fancy), a Pale Ale, an IPA and -- if I'm up for it -- more white wine on my balcony. "People-watching" from the balcony is a severely underrated activity.

You're watching the pretty women in their summer outfits aren't you?

How adorably naïve that you think some poor hen-pecked shmuck is somwhow "lucky"!

This weekend it'll be a Give My Head Peace marathon accompanied by more than a few cans of Ye Olde Carlsberg.

It might even only be 89F outside and not terribly humid, so I'll even open the windows, which is a celebration in itself.

I was referring to the bastards who are well-shagged by a pretty one throughout the entire duration of their two-week relationship.

I'm just now starting to recover a bit from a few days with stomach flu, so no alcohol for me tonight. frown
