Don Costa wrote a magnificent score for this thriller with Richard Widmark. Widmark later starred in a TV-series based on this movie. Who scored it? Was Costa's theme re-used?

Message to MV Gerhard at Lalaland and/or Douglass Fake & Roger Feigelson at Intrada....

Already 16 years ago since this post was published...

So what about a possible MADIGAN Don Costa CD release?
Let's update this topic...

Is there any chance of this gorgeous and dynamic score ever get a CD release at last or not?
Is there at least any attempt to do so but aborted, delayed or freezed for whatever reason....?

Buy the way, what about ROUGH NIGHT AT JERICHO also by Don Costa who would perfectly fit as a bonus?

Knowing the good musical tastes of our favorite labels executives, I just can't imagine there have no interest in these two great Silver Ages scores....

Any info of the eventual surviving of the master tapes?
Burned among others during the terrible 2009 Universal fire?

Thanks for posting the link for the Rough Night in Jericho clip! smile
That could be a great Don Costa at Universal doubleheader!

Btw the Madigan TV series was scored by Columbo's Richard DeBenedicits. wink

Possibly the ultimate 60s cop score. Amazing how radically the genre style of film and music changed just a few years later with Dirty Harry... and with the same director!

This soundtrack is a grail item for me.

Jeff Bond had a pithy comment about “Hunters Are For Killing” having title music that “is the most outrageously good ‘big city’ music” he’s ever heard, but “Madigan” sure gives it a run for the money.

There was another Madigan topic buried somewhere in this forum, but I don’t think it contained any comments about availability from our favorite boutique labels.

Also very typical Universal style credits.. You get that Mystery movie feel, the same font as for example for Columbo, MacMillan or McCloud. The font is called Folio Bold Extended, btw...

That's true but Madigan has not the feeling of a TV movie.

Madigan--TV version.

Love that 70s Universal harpsichord sound. Somewhat similar to Columbo's London episode. smile

Seeing as the NBC Mystery Movie concept ended in 1977 when I was six, there are so many Universal mystery programs I haven't seen that I'm champing at the bit to watch. The only show that disappoints upon rewatching is McCloud, even though I've always liked Dennis Weaver.

Mrs. Phelps is quite fond of The Snoop Sisters and every so often I binge on McMillan & Wife, if only for all that Jerry Fielding greatness--which is also heard in "Snoop."

Great to see McMillan mentioned here. It's on my holy grail list for ages but a release of Fielding's oustanding music will perhaps neuer happen. I have more hope for Madigan though! smile

Speaking of McMillan & Wife, here's my stillborn thread on that series, where Kev McGann denies the catchiness of Fielding's theme. wink
