I'm thinking about getting The Reivers score by John Williams what can you tell me about this one?
Is it any good?
What sort of score is it (I'm not familiar with the film), thriller, adventure, drama?

please let me know

THE REIVERS is one of the earliest and best Williams scores to be commercially recorded, perhaps the first one in his mature, symphonic mode as opposed to his more "pop" style. It was actually a replacement score, and it magnificently captures the rural Americana, bluesy/jazzy southland, high humor and childhood wonderment in this tale by William Faulkner. This was the Williams I first fell in love with on TV's "Alcoa Premiere," and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you can find it, there's also a suite, with narration by Burgess Meredith, Williams conducting, that contains music not included on the OST.

Enjoy!

Well I think I can get one relatively cheaply, but I'll let you know later tonight, I'm excited though thanks to your enthusiasm of this score.

I did not realize this is a rare score now; I bought it a few years ago when it was still widely available. I'd recommend it if you like scores like STANLEY & IRIS or THE RIVER.

Especially since it's head and shoulders better than/different from both those scores combined, plus has some thrilling, scintillating music that includes banjoes.

John Williams writes hillbilly chase music. 'Nuff said.

I seem to recollect Steven Spielberg saying that this was the score that prompted him to hire Williams for SUGARLAND EXPRESS.

To me, THE REIVERS and THE COWBOYS coincidently both directed by Mark Rydell, are Essential John Williams. If you watch the opening titles of THE REIVERS you will definately see a connection which inspired Spielberg's DREAMWORKS opening logo with the Boy and Fishing pole, again scored by our Maestro. THE REIVERS is a joy.

It is THE BEST Williams score ever done by Williams~!!!!!!!!! Pure Americana and delightful and heartwarming and filled to teh brim with the musical atmosphere of the time... sadly the Film Masters CD that I have it is archival and teh sound is rather tinny and shrill... but something is better than nothing. The recreation done for orchestra and narration is "nice", but leaves out MAJOR instruments, sadly.

Great music. No space ships or dinosaurs.

It is a joy... and has nothing to do with the Dreamworks logo music... except in your ears... but that is a nice thing.

"Badly done" defines VHS releases generally.

1969 and the first score that really brought
John Williams to my attention. Before that
I was impressed to a slight degree with
his arrangements and score to 'Diamond Head'
and 'How to Steal a Milion' but 'Reivers'
served notice that Williams had a lot more
going for him. I still put the 5 minute opening
sequence on every movie compilation Cd I make
for a film score novice.

The Music no Kris, but the visuals are quite similar. That's what I meant by "watch" and "see".

Wow. A movie without space ships or dinosaurs. Did people actually pay money to see it?
