_______________________________________________ Is this just an LP reissue mastered from the master tapes? _______________________________________________ Surely not. I'd rather have an all-new re-recording of the score if an LP-transfer is the only option. I've got Silva's original CD (paired with Ransom) and, while it's better than nothing, sound quality is pretty bad. I can't imagine that Prometheus could do their own LP-transfer that would be sufficiently improved enough to make the project worthwhile. What'd be the point?

For the sake of those ignorant of how good LP transfers done with technology available since the Silva CHAIRMAN/RANSOM album can be, send your mailing address to: Sturges47@earthlink.net And include the name of a favorite composer. "You will be believe a man can fly!"

Very glad to have a good-sounding version of the album...but it is too bad a more complete version can't be put together. Clearly there IS material to be had as evidenced by the Goldsmith @ Fox boxed set--and the final action set piece (post "The Fence" in the film) is as exciting as "Firefight" and "The Fence." FYI, the suite that appeared on the Goldsmith had only ONE extra cue in mono that came to about 51 seconds that opened that suite. The rest of the suite contained MONO versions of cues that appear in stereo on the LP and this CD release. Ford A. Thaxton

So it IS mastered from the LP? Or am I reading this wrong...? John What have you read? I don't recall discussing this project up to now. We used the surviving analogue tapes that AEI had which orgins are somewhat suspect to be honest. The goal was to make the CD sound as good as the original LP release which was quite good in it's own right. We also resequenced the album to more closely reflect film order for the most part. All I can say is that buysoundtrax.com will have clips up shortly and you can make up your own mind. IMHO, it sounds FAR better then the SILVA release (which I also produced). Ford A. Thaxton

I have had the opportunity to hear this new cd and I'm surprised by how good it sounds. It's a MAJOR improvement over the last release from Silva. The opening number, the love theme, is probably the worse sounding track of the album, but that's most likely due to the recording of the song. Other than that, it sounds pretty damn good. If you didn't have it before, pick it up. It's well worth it! MV

You mean they didn't use this for the cover? Damn! No. If I'm not mistaken, contractually they had to use the LP cover. MV
