There's a buzz on the John Barry Yahoo Group that one of John Barry's best "new film noir" (yeah it's a biopic but told in new film noir style) scores from the 80s, FRANCES, is to be issued on Super-Audio CD.
Haven't seen the announcement myself, but I understand it's Didgerigoo / Hot records. Personally, I can't find anything about it on their website but there you go.
It'll be the standard album I would guess and no one seems sure whether it'll be a hybrid disc (i.e. whether it'll work in ordinary CD players).

Quite possible.
Producer John Lasher has been a long supporter of new sound technologies. At one stage he had been working on a 5.1 DTS version of Herrmann's NIGHT DIGGER. This may see release on SACD or DVD-A one day.
Is there any indication whether FRANCES will be a two-channel SACD or a multi-channel mix?

A superb score as I said in another thread. The back cover of this edition says it was recorded in Prague, and I was wondering if someone here could tell us more about the recording? It was, at least to my knowledge, very unusual to record there at the time (1982).

I don't have the CD to hand to check out what it says on that back, but I'm very certain it was not recorded in Prague.

Indeed it does, and I find it hard to believe.
I went back to the original vinyl, which says: Recording and remix engineer: Dan Wallin, The Record Plant Scoring.
The Record Plant Scoring was in New York and Los Angeles at the time.
Admittedly, it doesn't explicitly say Frances was recorded at The Record Plant, it could just have been mastered and mixed there, but the LP doesn't say it was recorded in Prague either.
The credits go on to include Nathan Kaproff as orchestra contractor, which, for me casts serious doubt over this being done in Prague.
Add to that, it's unheard of that John Barry would go to Prague to record a film score in the 70s or 80s.
So, despite what it says on the SACD, it still seems more plausible to me that it was recorded in LA.

I thought the same about what you are saying about Dan Wallin and The Record Plant, since I have the LP, but hadn't noticed Nathan Kaproff in the credits.
So I think you are right, the recording sounds American to me (but I had a doubt). And the LP also credits Chet Swatkowski for Mozart's Sonata, who used to work in LA.

!00% definite recorded in LA. I remember speaking to his wife and asking what he was doing and she reported that she had not seen him of recent as he was in the studio in LA recording his music to a film called Frances .

I think Alex North's "Cheyenne Autumn" was released by the very same label (before Intrada did the definite release) and there's been some discussion about that CD on this board.
