To everyone who doesn't like Horner go suck a dick. Sorry I've been drinking to come home to this crap. He's good, PERIOD. Maybe after he is gone, then people will be saying well he wasn't that bad with the copying blah blah blah. Horner knows how to make a great melody and make us all cry.
I was about to say, how piddling in the scheme of things, but the accompanying text translates as:
"In the film "Willow" Classical Music was not used as such: James Horner specially composed the soundtrack. But were he himself to include Willow here it would be because in his soundtrack there is a pair of curious "coincidences" with two classical works. It would be necessary to ask Mr. Horner himself... But in spite of these two probable "plagiarisms", one must admit that the music that James Horner composed for this film is a wonder."
The Schumann thing is well-known, but I didn't realise that Horner's four-note "danger motif" which he's used in virtually every score was culled from Rachmaninov!

one, this is offensive language. no need to get that irate over a post about Horner's originality or lack thereof. And admittign you'd been drinking is not a valid excuse IMO.
Second, I don't anyone has debated whether Horner is a good film composer- meaning he can aptly apply music (whether original or lifted) to a dramatic context in film. But to us composers/musicians/classical music fans, Horner represents the worst of the artistic aesthetic. He's not just ripping off other composers but he's choosing some pretty abscure pieces to avoid being blasted by the general public or his musically illiterate employers aka directors/producers. this is sneaky and well, amoral. And as the FSM podcast reveals, it's not a matter of opinion, it's a plain fact.

As the Great Kerr Avon once said: "Crude, but accurate." That said, it's pretty tame compared to all the venous bile so-called film music fans post here especially against Horner. I thought FSM was THE place to celebrate film music. I'm all for free speech, but there are some limits, even here. I wonder, would Lukas and co. put up with comments made against Goldsmith and Barry? I doubt it.
