THE MATADOR ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
FEATURING SCORE BY ROLFE KENT
WITH SONGS BY DANIEL INDART, THE JAM, THE CRAMPS, LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS, AND OTHERS

CRITICS SAY “¡OLÉ!” TO THE GOLDEN GLOBE® NOMINATED FILM

(January 3, 2006- New York, NY) – The Weinstein Company and Miramax Films presents THE MATADOR, which Joe Leydon of Variety calls “A quirky yet commercial commingling of black comedy, seriocomic psychodrama, heart-tugging sudser and buddy-movie farce,” and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone says “Just sit back and enjoy the fun”! The film has earned star Pierce Brosnan a Golden Globe® nomination for his performance as Julian Noble, a hitman who loses his nerve. Superb Records will release THE MATADOR – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on January 10, 2006.

In writer/director Richard Shepard's dark comedy THE MATADOR, Julian Noble (Pierce Brosnan) is a hitman who's very good at what he does, but is losing his taste for the business. Danny (Greg Kinnear) is a salesman whose marriage and finances are in trouble. One night, at the hotel bar, these two men meet. Before long, they find themselves having an extremely unique Mexico City experience, one that will change them both forever. Julian the hit man, Danny the ordinary American businessman find that while they have nothing in common, they both need each other in ways they never knew they would.

THE MATADOR Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released by Superb Records on January 10. The Original Soundtrack contains original score composed by Rolfe Kent (The Wedding Crashers, Sideways). The soundtrack album also contains numerous songs from the film, including tracks performed by The Jam, The Cramps, Tom Jones, Asia, and the appropriately titled “El Matador” by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Three cuts written by Daniel Indart, “A Mi Guitarra”, “Bahia Bianca”, and “No Te Rajes” are also featured on the CD.

Rolfe Kent has scored feature films in Hollywood and Europe. With 30+ film credits to his name, Kent has worked multiple times for several directors including Alexander Payne (Election, Sideways, About Schmidt), Mark Waters (The House Of Yes, Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven), Richard Shepard (Mercy, Oxygen, The Matador) and Jeff Nathanson (The Last Shot). Kent received a Golden Globe nomination for Sideways, and earned BMI Film Music Awards for Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, and Freaky Friday. In the liner notes, written by the film’s writer and director, Richard Shepard says “Rolfe is a genius…his score is complex, funny, dangerous and full of heart.”

Daniel Indart is a composer, songwriter, and producer specializing in Latin music for film, television, and records. His music credits include the theme song on NBC’s “KingPin,” music for HBO’s The Sopranos and works with a host of films clients, including Disney, Sony, and Showtime. Indart has written more than 600 songs and commercial music pieces, has recorded three record albums, has performed as the lead voice in musical spots for numerous advertising campaigns, and has sung accompaniment for Plácido Domingo, Ana Gabriel, Gloria Trevi, Pimpinela, and Xuxa.

The Weinstein Company and Miramax Films present THE MATADOR, starring Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, and Hope Davis will be in theaters in select markets on January 6, going wider on January 13, and nationwide on January 20. THE MATADOR—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be in stores on January 10, 2006.

Yay, another Rolfe Kent CD and this one riffs on Barry Bond scores according to some reviews I've read. Should be cool, Rolfe sure can write a mean melody.

Why do they release the soundtrack after the film? Just wondering.

Actually, in this case the soundtrack is released in time for the film's wider release.

The film was open in limited release in December (to qualify for award nominations), and is currently only showing in a few theaters. It will be opening wide throughout the month.

(I am a US based publicist and all of these dates are for the US release of the film and CD)

Not to be a spoilsport, but the CD cue list I saw seemed to indicate only 3 Kent pieces, plus the songs.

There are 3 Kent Cues:

"Manila Fiasco" 2:38
"Matador Theme" 2:42
"One Night in Mexico" 2:39

In addition there are 3 instrumental tracks penned by Daniel Indart (who amongst other things writes music for TV/advertising and also is a Spanish music specialists (you can read more about him at http://www.lmsrecords.com/LMSBiosDanielIndart.htm).

"Bahia Blanca"
"A Mi Guitarra" (both are guitar based flamenco influenced instrumentals)
and "No Te Rajes" (mariachi)

BTW-- all of the songs on the soundtrack are featured prominently in the film -- the other ones are:

"A Town Called Malice" The Jam
"El Matador" Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
"It's Not Unusual" Tom Jones
"1,2,3,4" Titan
"Garbageman" The Cramps
"The Heat of the Moment" Asia
"In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" Dave Van Norden

I hope that answers your questions.

Thanks, it most certainly does (but you'll have to pardon my little bummer mood frown now that there's less than 10 mins of Mr Kent's score.

I watched this film last night for probably the tenth time. There are only 3 Kent cues on the cd. We need a score cd. Anyone else interested?
