This is a very sparse score from Leonard Rosenman, but a very carefully spotted one. As most of James Caan's directorial effort runs without music, its placing and effect is all the more crucial. Rosenman's elegiac composition brings a delicate emotional quality to scenes associated with love (love for a woman, love for children); in a sense, speaking in notes what the main character fails to put into words.
The final credits music, which illustrates a family reunion, quietly soaring as the camera elevates itself from the ground towards the top of trees, before ending on one of Rosenman's familiar ascending motif, is absolutely beautiful and reminds me of the composer's work for East of Eden.

I sincerely hope this pure gem might find its way on a future FSM title (the movie is MGM) as a bonus. Unless, of course, Leonard Rosenman had initially recorded much more than what ended up in the picture.

Nice suggestion Sir T.

I would love to have Bound for Glory on CD. Rosenman won an Academy Award for his adaptation work on this but he composed original material for it too.

I've always like Rosenman's work and would welcome any release. He is, however, one of those composers that seem to polarize listeners- either love/hate, not much in-between.

Yes, whether you love him or not.

But I´m really surprised that The Cobweb is one of the worst selling albums from FSM!

I guess Rosenman "haters" tend to forget he can write great themes and lyrical music as well as brilliant avant-garde compositions.
