Ah, more "variations on a theme"! I've heard these others -- though not Joe's version -- before, too, and I can't cite any particular source simply because, I'm afraid, they were all so long ago. Over time, "my" version has just become part of my storehouse of movie lore. Something tells me the first time I heard the story was when I read it in a publication from The Max Steiner Society, which will give you an idea how long it would have been. Manderley, no need to worry about your tone, which was fine; I just didn't want you to think I'd been disrespectful to you. Some day I hope my book on movie crew people will see daylight, so that I can share with the world the John Ford story I got from property Master "Ace" Holmes....

PS: My vote for Steiner/Davis goes to THE LETTER. But nothing against any of the others, heaven knows. (No cracks about ALL THIS AND HEAVEN, TOO!)

Here's the post-main title cue. I'd need an extra hand-and-a-half to play all five lines! I think I recall the MSMS stuff having a fair amount of source cues for DV, is why I ask.
