I'm in love with this score.
Never released in LP or CD (there's a boot floating around).
Who owns the masters?
I saw that the VHS copy of the movie was released by Warner Bros. but the DVD was released by Westlake Ent. Group (don't know who owns this).
I hope someone, someday, releases this beatiful underrated score of the many still-unreleased Barry masterpieces.

Jonathan Elias is playing keyboards on this score. Is the score an orchestral/electronic hybrid?

I seem to remember that I recorded a short suite (about 7 minutes) of this score for one of the John Barry collections I did. I think it was the double ZULU CD? (But having done over 15 Barry CDs my mind tends to meld them together..especially at my time of life!)

Not intending to change the subject of the thread, but I take it Barry is actively retired now, and unwilling to do any further assignments?

I don't know what you mean by "Hybrid" but the score sounds like it has a real orchestra (if not, then it's probably the best imitation i've ever heard!). The main theme has some piano, so Elias is probably there, but it's dominated by the harmonica. I personally love this score and i'm surprised about the little or no talk i've heard about it.

The suite you are referring to is in your double Zulu CD, in disc two.
I didn't know you had done so many Barry CDs. I'll have to pay a closer look at what i have.

I assume you're saying this to get John for a couple of re-recordings?
I'd love to see him involved in some projects but i doubt he'll ever do it.

Yes, it's on the Zulu CD and is a good suite. Recommended. I'd still be interested in the complete score as well and hope that some day someone will do it.

As for Barry ... I don't think he every formally retired. He did do Brighton Rock and he has just recorded music for the Ten Tenors.

I wish he'd do more movies though. But only if he can find some fresh ideas. In the last ten years of his active film scoring it started to feel like he was writing on auto-pilot. To his credit, I still liked his work. There's just something in his autonomy that makes him write satisfying music. But I'd hate his career to fizzle out on uncreative sameness.

Cheers

this score contains some nice moments... and some boring too. But if this score would be signed by Goldsmith o Williams im sure there will be a VARESE CLUB edition yet!!!

I've been dreaming a lot, but my dreams never materialize.
Varese would change the cover though.

Am I the only person who would buy a legitimate CD release of this score in a heartbeat? It has always surprised me to see some of John Barry's lesser efforts get released (Mike's Murder, Masquerade, Starcrash) and never see 'My Sister's Keeper' even mentioned in conversations.
Anyone?

No, plenty of people would buy it. It might be a 1,500-er rather than a 3,000-er, but it should sell.

I think the problem here is missing masters, not apathy.

Somebody who knows about these things did tell me that Silva Screen records had masters or copies back in 1986 when they were in talks to release the soundtrack album, but obviously that album never happened and I have no idea what happened since. Or even if what I was told is really true.

There's an unmentionable CD release flying around, and I believe the sound quality isn't terrible (certainly worse-sounding CDs have been released). I should think the legal issues with this score are a walk in the park, so why not work with the sources we already have? The score is quite well represented in that b**tleg.

Could it be one of those where the film is so obscure that the rights are too hard to track down?

I'd assumed that could be one of the problems with getting Peter Proud released (though that could just be missing tapes), though the recent/upcoming Blu-Ray release suggests that SOMEONE has Peter Proud rights.

There have been multiple DVD releases of 'My Sister's Keeper', which could mean that the rights are either cheap to acquire or impossible to track down.
