Given the date, I fully expect some bogus announcement of a long-wanted score, followed by disappointment. But I did a quick search of some old Intrada April Fool's announcements, and here's what I found: April 1, 1997 ----------------- BRUCE BROUGHTON Monster Squad (Sept.25) JERRY GOLDSMITH Rent-a-Cop (reissue, remastered with 10 additional minutes of music) NEW RELEASES________________________________ DAVID ARNOLD: Independence Day (Expanded) Atlantic JERRY GOLDSMITH: The Other/Mephizto Waltx FOX BERNARD HERRMANN: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir/A Hatful of Rain FOX Anna and the King of Siam FOX Journey to the Center of the Earth FOX VIC MIZZY: The Ghost and Mr. Chicken ChickFlick ALEX NORTH: Spartacus (75', Goldsmith conducting National Philharmonic) Varese ALAN SILVESTRI: Predator (40')/Die Hard (Kamen, 25') FOX VARIOUS: Great Cinema Banjo Classics (performed by Nic Raine) Silva Screen (includes LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, THE OMEN, STAR TREK, etc) Okay, that was ten years ago. Of these, all the FOX scores (long delayed by Fox at the time) were eventually released by Varese. "Ghost & Mr. Chicken" was put out by Percepto. The others still await release, though the Goldsmith/North will never be. The Banjo thing could, though... Two years earlier, Roger faked this list: ------------ Tron Wendy Carlos Sony/Legacy B Joe Versus the Volcano Georges Delerue Varese CD Club P Something Wicked This Way Comes James Horner Walt Disney Records R Amazing Stories Vol. 1 (Contains Ghost Train, Alamo Jobe, The Mission, Boo) Goldsmith/Williams/Horner) Promo Disc PPP Three of these have since been released legitimately, and one as a laserdisc isolated score. And in 1996, this was the gag list: ---------- John Barry: RAISE THE TITTANIC (DRG) Bernard Herrmann: THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (Broughton cond.) (Intrada) James Horner: BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS/HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (HCD) Ennio Morricone: THE DOLLAR TRILOGY (3-CD Set, complete scores) (Rhino) John Williams: HEARTBEEPS (Varese CD Club) Various: THE BEST OF SCIENCE FICTION SEX WESTERNS (Silva) Of these, "Heartbeeps," "Raise the Titanic" (a rerecording), and the Horner twofer have since come out. So whatever fake-outs we see here on April 1st, they may be reality by 2017!

I remember last year that the JWFan.net website made an announcement that it was to become a paysite, and people went mental on their main message board. It was hilarious to witness the number of people who fell for the joke, before realising what day it was. In any event, it's nearly 4:30pm here, so I seem to have escaped the day's 'festivities' unscathed (apparently the jokes are only valid until midday, meaning that I've been free and clear for 4 1/2 hours).

I was thinking of posting something like "Rest in Peace, John Towner Williams - 1932-2007" to see how many views it would get in short order, but I got cold feet. I just might have gotten kicked off the site for that. Not to mention thoroughly disciplined by Ford. That would be just too sad a thought...

Yeah that one really wouldn't be funny. JWFAN.com has come up with some good April Fools pranks over the past few years that affect the website and this year is no exception. I'm still smilling because of that one. Ricard had already done one simmilar a few years back, but this year's even funnier.
