I would really like to hear Pat Metheny and Thomas Newman's contributions. Sadly, they are not on youtube.

I've no idea where these episodes fall in the chronology, but it is worth noting that while only season 1 was released on DVD, season 2 is on Netflix's Watch It Now feature. And of course the Laserdisc/VHS sets may include additional episodes not found in either.

Sadly, season 2 is no longer available for streaming on Netflix. frown

Actually, Season 2 is available on DVD, but only in JAPAN. roll eyes

So if you have a Region free player and roughly $130+ to spare, it can be had from Amazon.co.jp

FYI, Season 2 is back on Netflix. It looks like crap (I wish they would have released a DVD set) but it's better than nothing.

I'd buy Season 2 just for the episode "Thanksgiving" (with David Carradine) alone. I only saw that episode once as a kid, but the premise and especially the surprise ending made an impact that stuck with me for years afterward.

As zooba mused on the other side of the board, the new Apple TV "Amazing Stories" trailer got me pondering who might be back for this new incarnation.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sa8EDeb3eQ

I wondered, if they can afford the same contemporary cream-of-the-crop composers that Spielberg and his producers cherry-picked for their scores back in the mid-1980s, who might they hire today?

There are already composers listed for episodes:

Nicholas Pike ... (1 episode, 2020)
Noah Sorota ... (1 episode, 2020)
Brandon Campbell ... (1 episode)
Ramin Djawadi ... (1 episode)
(and though not credited yet, it looks like Isham scored the first episode)

So anybody hoping to the scoring of yesteryear, LOL, they've dashed your hopes most thoroughly.

So anybody hoping to the scoring of yesteryear....

Well, no. It was just a thought experiment.

But thanks.

Considering Spielberg is producing on it like the original series, I certainly had higher hopes.

I remember back in the day of the Original AMAZING STORIES, Dave Grusin, Bill Conti, Henry Mancini, John Barry and Ennio Morricone never scored an episode. Wonder if they were even offered?

On the original, they had 29 composers score 45 episodes over two seasons. One can dream.

Would've been curious to hear what Elmer Bernstein would've done.

How did I forget about Elmer? And Alex North.

So anybody hoping to the scoring of yesteryear, LOL, they've dashed your hopes most thoroughly.

You have to remember that in 1985, the composers were a fair mix of established veterans and up-and-coming composers. So, say, of the up-and-coming composers, Thomas Newman wasn't THOMAS NEWMAN then. And Danny Elfman wasn't DANNY ELFMAN. And so on. So a composer like Djawadi is pretty much where Newman was at the time. And Isham is now among the veterans. Makes total sense.

Looking forward to both the series itself, and whatever composers are hired. Hoping for a similar fair mix of veterans and newcomers this time around.

Yeah, Isham in on the show:

Given the involvement of Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz (the pair made a hash of Once Upon A Time and Tron: Legacy) expectations should be lowered accordingly.

From another message board, a comment on the Williams theme music for this new series:

"Good to see they kept John Williams' classic, exhilarating theme almost unchanged, although I can hear slight differences that tell me it's not the same recording from 35 years ago, and of course the added sound effects"

Watched the teaser, and it sounds like the original recording to me (albeit edited to heck and covered in sound effects). Not sure what to make of the teaser, which is high on a very modern kind of drab seriousness, with none of the whimsy I associate with the '80s series.

The line of composers is kind of all over the place IMO, but Isham and Nicholas Pike are inspired choices. I always loved Pike's "Critters 2," though somehow I doubt he was asked to write something like this (but I hope I'm wrong, this actually sounds like it could've been an '80s "Amazing Stories" score):

I was so deflated after the lame comedy relief in the opening episode that I dismissed the series. Only other ep that I recall watching most of was the one with Costner and the cartoon guy trapped in the ball turret. Rather moving, it was.
