Good! I've always had trouble wearing that title proudly when there are so many financial obstacles in my own life, among other things, that one should never expect when you have my level of education and experience. That's not worthy of a country which allegedly is the "best place to live".

Go Iceland! smile

Alcohol is too expensive and restricted in Norway, so that would strike it off my list! Otherwise it's nice.

My fiancee says there are too many shops selling lamp shades in Oslo.

Ireland - too religious for my liking. smile

OY! What's your beef with Iceland?

Iceland is like Norway's little brother (although most Icelanders probably would take offense to that).

No, I know nothing about Iceland. That's why I commented on I-r-e-l-a-n-d instead. Read the article. Here's a quote:

Rich free-market countries dominate the top places, with Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada and Ireland the first five but the United States slipping to 12th place from eighth last year in the U.N. Human Development Index.

I read the article thanks. That's why I posted it. The discussion, up until your post, had been about Norway as No. 2 and Iceland as No. 1.

Who knew you were going to go on a tangent and start discussing the also-rans?

Congratulations to Thorway

I mean "Norway." smile

It was named #1.

I guess that's why Thor stays there, in his tiny garret, composing away until someone premieres his Concerto for Compact Disc and Orchestra, Op. 69, and he is acclaimed and carried through the streets. Then he'll move to Hollywood, make millions and become addicted to plastic surgery (after he STOPS getting carded at bars smile ).

Ireland hasn't been religious since the Pope visited in 1979!

Doesn't nearly everyone in Iceland live in Reykjavik? All I can think of is Glaciers and Bobby Fisher. Oh, and their football team beat England in last years European Championshipswink

Don't forget Sigur Ros, if you want that dreamy, ethereal 'song as 12 minute lamentation' with crazy made-up gobbledegook lyrics.

What exactly is your level of education and experience, Thor? That should be interesting to read.

As for Norway.... looks like a nice place to live -- if you like snow.... and blonds!

Otherwise, I'd rather live in Iceland because at least there you can climb to the summit of Snæfellsjökull and take a journey to the center of the earth!

As for the best place to live, or at least the "happiest," it's supposed to be Denmark, at least that's what the CBS Sunday Morning show said.

Norway beat Denmark in the latest survey, pr. the earlier Daily Mail article. But perhaps next year, Denmark will be the the socalled 'happiest' country in the world again.

Happiness is, of course, a relative term. You can be very happy here in the US -- if you have plenty of money and like living under the rule of right-wing know-nothings. Oh! Now I guess I'll get banned from this place. Where else but here in the USA?

The UN report is based on a number of different factors:

http://worldhappiness.report/ed/2017/

The US comes in at 14th place in the most recent survey, but was as high as 3rd place in 2007.
