1.) The Time Machine - Russell Garcia
One of my all time favorite movies and scores. I thought I´d never get a wonderful edition of this, and then FSM stepped up to the plate, and presented the ulitmate edition. One of the very best fantasy scores of all time!

2.)Beneath the Planet of the Apes - Leonard Rosenman

This is a superb follow up score to Jerry Goldsmith´s masterpiece. And again an excellent release of FSM.

3.) On dangerous Ground - Bernard Herrmann

I applaud Lukas and co. for releasing this anyway, in spite of the problems the sound had.
A beautiful and haunting score by Herrmann.

4.) Mutiny on the Bounty - Bronislau Kaper

Well, this had to be in it. An epic, masterful score by Kaper, gets the release it deserves.
I wonder, if it is sold out already?

5.) Untamed - Franz Waxman

A terrific adventure score, colorfull and alive.

I compliment your taste with ON DANGEROUS GROUND. Have you ever seen the movie? You'd appreciate it a lot more.

Some of the ones I find myself listening to most often.

Omega Man. It's just so great.

Logan's Run TV. What can I say? I love the "byew-byew-byew" theme song and wonderful 70's tv scoring. Great stuff.

Jericho. Surprisingly good music from a tv show I'd never even heard of before the cd came out. Even though it's Goldsmith, I probably wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't in the charter club at the time but I just love it.

UNCLEs. I didn't watch the show growing up since it never played on my local channels, but I took a chance on the music and love them all -- even the Spy with My Face compilation, which I almost passed on as "too much" at the time but it ended up becoming my favorite of all the collections. Go figure.

Atlantis/The Power. Another I never would have bought if not for the late lamented charter club. Atlantis is just superb and I much prefer it to Time Machine.

Tiomkin's 36 HOURS. Probably my favorite of all their releases. As much as I loved the original (shortened) album, the expanded release was a quantum leap forward in enjoyability.

Rozsa's KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE/THE KING'S THIEF

Herrmann's ON DANGEROUS GROUND

Goldsmith's THE PRIZE

Garcia's THE TIME MACHINE

And about four dozen more!

Here's mine:

1. Alice's Adventures In Wonderland/Petulia - John Barry (what a dream come true to see such treasures released on CD).

2. The Appointment - Barry, Legrand, Philips, Walker (a HISTORIC release. Three different takes on a long-lost film? It sure showed that anything was possible with FSM).

3. Deadfall - John Barry (Barry's guitar concerto, in crisp stereo, plus alternate takes on the song, vintage 60s John Barry. A must).

4. Born Free - John Barry (one of the most popular and beloved scores of all time, Barry's first Oscar winner, two of them, as if it wasn't enough).

5. The Illustrated Man - Jerry Goldsmith (my first FSM CD, and what a gem. One of my favorite Goldsmith experiments).

6. Monte Walsh - John Barry (FSM truly treated this score like no other label would have. Yhe complete score plus alternates, the wonderful Barry saloon tracks, the source music for the wedding, and the various versions of the mama cass song).

7. Logan's Run - Jerry Goldsmith (The pinnacle of experimental Goldsmith. I love it. And quite surprised it hasn't sold out).

8. King Kong - John Barry (if it wasn't for the rights issues that avoided this one from being expanded, it would sure be on the top of the list).

9. The Comancheros - Elmer Bernstein (my favorite Bernstein western, couldn't miss it).

10. Take A Hard Ride - Jerry Goldsmith (one of my favorite Goldsmith westerns. Love every second of it).

Damn, I sure hope FSM gets to release more Barry scores. Getting such production values, film music might be the most quality-produced music genre on the face of earth, under good hands.

Alex

P.S: Sorry I broke the "five best" indication. There are simply too many good ones.

So many to choose from. I'm trying to think in terms of importance, rather than the high profile, holy grails some fit both descriptions!).

Elmer Bernstein's Filmmusic Collection
Fantastic Voyage
Kings Row/The Sea Wolf
Mutiny on the Bounty
Patton/Flight of the Phoenix

The Prize
The Thing From Another World
Raintree County
Kings Row
The Commancheros

Poor Benny didn't even make it into my top five. But like every one else, I could easily name a dozen more that seem to always be in rotation. To name just a few more:

The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao
The Time Machine
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. vol. 1
Pelham One, Two, Three
Wait Until Dark

Hmm, still no Benny.

Can't wait for Land of the Pharohs.

1. All About Eve/Leave Her To Heaven- This is the release that I found Googling one day six years ago. I was beyond thrilled to find it and little did I know it would lead to so many happy hours of listening pleasure from so many FSM releases. My favorite movie (AAA) and my favorite composer (Newman).
2. Mutiny on the Bounty - This 3-CD set shows what FSM can do at its best.
3. Lili - An Oscar-winner that I thought would never see the light of day.
4. On the Beach/The Secret of Santa Vittoria - Though they may not be as fleshed out as some of the other releases, they're great, melodic scores. Just check out the cello countermelody in the main title of TSOSV.
5. Raintree County - A classic that is finally given the proper sound it deserves.

...And a helluva lot more.

1-The Towering Inferno. A no-brainer first-choice for me. This was the Holy of Holies among scores I'd wanted and I can still remember the rush of excitement I felt when I saw it listed, and was the first to post on it here on the FSM board.

2-The Paper Chase/Poseidon Adventure. And not far behind was seeing the first of the great Williams disaster scores making it to CD at last. Seeing this as the second FSM title was the hook I needed to keep watching for future releases.

3-Patton/Flight Of The Phoenix. Another milestone moment was seeing the original tracks for Goldsmith's greatest score IMO surface at last.

4-The Prize. This has become my favorite early Goldsmith score.

5-Plymouth Adventure. And this has become tied with "Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes" as my favorite non-roadshow epic Rozsa score.

2.) Escape from the Planet of the Apes - Leonard Rosenman

This is a superb follow up score to Jerry Goldsmith´s masterpiece. And again an excellent release of FSM.

It's "Beneath the Planet of the Apes", by the way.
