This score is such a gem, such a joy to me, I can't understand why it didn't get an Oscar nomination. And why didn't Michael Gore get better jobs (more big screen movies) after such a triumphant work?

I totally agree. I ran out and bought that CD immediately after seeing the film. Infectious theme.

One of my favorite movies. I love the score, perhaps more for how well it serves the picture than for the music on its own. (Of course, this should be the measure of how successful a score is, right?) I wonder what happened to Gore--his credits seem sparse for an Oscar-winning composer.

Hilarious movie, too. Albert Brooks is the Jack Benny of our time! This was a nice score.

If you want to watch a movie that will make you LYAO, catch Brook's THE MUSE.

Yeah, I remember liking the score so much when I listened to the film, but then when I bought the soundtrack, it kinda lost some of its power. It became too "obvious", too repetitative and too "fluffy" (sorry about the poor use of adjectives here). By then, though, it had become somewhat of a rarity, so I took advantage of that in a trade. This must have been 8-10 years ago.

Loved Michael Gore's DEFENDING YOUR LIFE

also really liked his Oscar nominated score for TERMS OF ENDEARMENT and did you know he also won the Oscar for BEST ORGINAL SCORE and SONG for 1980's

FAME

Would love to hear MORE from GORE.

Remember his name FAME!!!

The scores for Terms of Endearment (Gore), Under Fire (Goldsmith) Return of the Jedi (Williams) and Cross Creek (Rosenman) all lost the Best Score Oscar to

Bill Conti's The Right Stuff

TERMS has a great main title, but that's all I know. My favorite cues by far in DEFENDING are the Finale and End Titles.

The score is awesome and so is Albert Brooks.

My perfect heaven where you can eat and eat and eat and not get fat!

Enjoy this musical feast from Maestro Chef Michael Gore!

Two bits of trivia on the film and score. The director of photography is Allen Daviau who shot Spielberg's E.T., THE COLOR PURPLE and EMPIRE OF THE SUN and the director's TWILIGHT ZONE MOVIE segment and the one with Lithgow on the plane. Also shot Spielberg's AMAZING STORIES episode Ghost Train and his other work includes being D.P. on THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN, BUGSY and HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS.

Michael Gore's music orchestrations were by Shirley Walker.

Nice to know I'm not alone on this one. Saw it months ago and thought, once the opening credits played, "Wow, this score is really good!"

Love the film and adore the score!

Me, too! Both are brilliant. (Has anyone else noticed a very, very slight warbling throughout the CD? Almost as if the tape is a bit too tight. It's one of those things that has bugged me over the years about the CD, which is otherwise brilliant.)

Yes! This CD just does not sound right, and I've never known why.

I've loved this score for what, about 25 years now? (First saw the movie with my mother who was about Brooks' age at the time and dying of cancer, so it was especially powerful.) I don't doubt that there is something odd about the recording, but I've listened repeatedly over the years and never noticed anything. Still one of my favorite listens.

Thank you! So it's not just me. Still a lovely score. I'd hope for a re-release that corrects this anomaly, but I don't believe it's missing any music, is it?
