Yes, thanks to Basil, Amer and Preston Neal for their insights on this series.
Despite Kimmel's imprecations about botched mastering, I'm eating these Dutton Vocalion multi-channel discs up.
Considering the stellar sleeve art designs on this series (viewable on the Amazon.com listings for the Vocalion SACD's), I would have loved to see these albums and all the promos back in the days of vinyl (sadly too young at the time).
Has anyone ever seen a full set of these on LP, promos included? I wonder what a mint-condition set of all the vinyl issues and promos would cost?
Sorta. Gerhardt did a recording of Empire Strikes Back highlights (but I don't think it was done for the RCA series) and there was an album that was part of the RCA series with some Star Wars cues on one side and Close Encounters of the Third Kind on the other, iirc. Also there was one of Return of the Jedi.

No wonder I could never find a copy! I had the CE3K and ROTJ discs. Not that great but ESB is superb!
That Gerhardt ROTJ album was such a treasure to find when I was on a road trip in 1990 with friends from high school. I was overjoyed to have those performances of Fight in the Dungeon, Fight with TIE Fighters and Darth Vader's Death. It almost became a much more enjoyable representation of music from that film than the original soundtrack!

Had it. Traded it. I feel the same way about ESB. It's my go to listen!
There's a non-Dolby version (the European CD release made in Germany) that sounds much better than the surround version above. Not easy to find, but I've seen them quite often for around $20 on eBay or Amazon.

Also RETURN OF THE JEDI. Both were pressed on RCA Red Seal label. These were highlighted in the early FSM print issues so I jumped on ebay to get these nearly a decade ago. Highly recommended.
