I often wonder why we have never had any proper release of the music from this long running and ever popular TV series ? Apart from the great theme music there is also the pilot film, The Homecoming - A Christmas Story, and five or six early episodes scored by Jerry, not to mention Alexander Courage and Arthur Morton's contributions! I had hoped for a while that the famous Blue Box might be a Walton's collection, given the Blue Ridge Mountains connection...well it could have been! Anyway, can anyone shed any light on this, do tapes still exist and if they do what are the chances of a release ? Lukas, Doug, Ford ?

I second that motion, the homecoming would be soooo cool to have. Great themes throughout.

They must be stored somewhere at FOX. (Perhaps there's another multiple disk set being worked on as we speak at either Varese or Intrada.)

"The Homecoming," coupled with the theme and episode music that Goldsmith wrote for the first season of "The Waltons" would make a great CD.

Hallo. I get out this older post, because my hopes for an WALTONS cd box ist still alive! As mentioned before in this thread, not only Goldsmith effort to this series is great (even if i prefer his episode music more, than his score for the pilot HOMECOMING); Arthur Mortons and Sandy Courage scores are truly some of the best things ever written for TV (specially in the 70s)! Once ive heard that the apes are lost by a fire at LORIMA (if I remember correctly, it was Lucas, who sayed that). But I could imagine, Morton, Courage and even Goldsmith have stored some tapes of the recordings in theire homes. Specially Alexander Courage seems to be very cooperative in releasing his music (remember his good conection with Neal Norman on his Star Trek scores). And today it seems to be possible, to get licence from every studio (watch the latest releases from Intrada, FSM, ect). And didnt FSM has acess to the WARNER archive? So please, Lucas, Doug and all others: Try to release some of this great music from one of the true classics of the american television! Greetings

Jeff, I can top that -- unfortunately. One of my first impressions of L.A. culture when I arrived in the mid-70's was hearing a radio commercial for a British style pub "where our waitresses in hot pants will be eager to serve you." The music underneath the voice-over? Ralph Vaughan Williams' "The Lark Ascending." Well, it WAS British.

Not sure if I heard this hear or there, but Waltons was Lorimar Television and I heard from SOMEONE that those things don't exist, like the music to the Waltons, maybe Fake said something on the Intrada board, anyway, I heard chances are slim to none.

You can say "None".. I spent a very long time looking for these masters and thing that still exists are the music stems which are conformed to picture with dips in volume,etc.. So, this might be a good choice to re-record by someone like Bill Stromberg.. Ford A. Thaxton
