What do you guys think of FSM or any other record label releasing the complete score of Thundercats?

Please sign this petition.
http://www.thundercatsfans.org/tcfans/petition/index.php
(Yeah I am aware online petitions won't really convince any studio or label to produce this cd, but enough signatures might just give us the extra edge when putting forward a proposal to them)

Past several years one fan (Sonia) has been trying to them released officially through various sources, but hasn't been successful yet. Several years ago she wrote a fan letter to Bernard Hoffer and asked if he had the complete collection and whether she could have them. He actually sent her all the tracks he did for episodes 1-65 (there are totally 130) Of course she had to sign an agreement which stated that she would not share or distribute them. Also since Bernard didn't have the all tracks, Sonia with help of a friend who had contacts with Warner archives, asked if they can procure all the missing cues so that Bernard himself can have his complete composed collection. Since those cues are lost in the thousands of unlabeled stuff in Warner archives, Warner agreed to do it but for $14,000 to cover labor costs.

I have merely summarized her story in a paragraph, read the whole story in the link below and also have at look her past updates in the comments section.

Here are two audio clips taken from the show. (Is it okay to post links to 1 min audio clips ?)

I'd buy that in an instant. Was there enough music composed to fill a CD, though? There was a LOT of tracking on that show.

Yes there was enough music composed to fill a cd.

Here is the cue list Bernard sent Sonia along with the tracks.

1. Thundercats main title song
2. End Credits
3. Vocal Cues A-D
4. Main Title - General Background
5. Cheetara's theme
6. Panthro's theme
7. Tygra's theme
8. Snarf's theme
9. Sword Eye of Thundera theme
10. Mumm-Ra's theme
11. S-S-S-Slith's theme
12. Castle Plun-Darr
13. Thundercats Lair
14. Moods (30 second loops) - The Bottemless Chasm
15. Moods - The Desert of Sinking Sands
16. Moods - The Forest of Silence
17. Moods - The Garden of Delights
18. Moods - The Living Ooze
19. Moods - The Snowmen of Hook Mountain
20. Moods - The River of Despair
21. Moods - The Whirlpool of Infinity
22. Moods - The Sponge Fog
23. Moods - The Serpent Swamp
24. Moods - Tension
25. Moods - Anticipation
26. Moods - Unpleasant Undercurrent
27. Battle - Thundercats winning
28. Battle - Thundercats losing
29. Battle - Mutants in control
30. Battle - Mutants on the run
31. Battle Action - General backgrounds
32. Impact and Attack
33. Thundertank chase
34. Bravery - Brave but withheld march to destiny
35. Cat Prowl in jungle
36. Tempo
37. The Sword - Lion-O up arm-outstretched
38. The Sword - Does Thundercall-to-Ho-sword growls
39. The Sword - Beam into sky
40. The Sword - Growl out (symbol in sky animates)
41. Short Battles
42. Danger Approaching
43. Vision Thru Sword Holes
44. To the Rescue
45. Play-Ins - Action
46. Play-Ins - Danger
47. Play-Ins - Suspense
48. Play-Ins - Main theme-general
49. Act Ends - Action
50. Act Ends - Danger
51. Act Ends - Suspense
52. Act Ends - Main theme-general
53. Show End - Main big
54. Transitions
55. Bumpers Out
56. Bumpers In
57. Mumm-Ra Transformation
58. Jaga's theme
59. Good Guy Chases
60. Bad Guy Chases

And Sonia mentioned the following on the Thundercatslair.org board.

"Actually, what I listed is a SHORT overall list. Under each of the 'bigger' themes are specific short cuts ranging from 30 seconds to 4 minutes in length specially orchestrated to fit that time frame. Yeah, those are basically repeats of the overall long theme, but there's a LOT of work behind each. For example, Snarf's theme has 7 cues total, each around 20-30 seconds depending on his mood (the 7 listed are moody, comical, jog along, meanish, sad, comical (again), and top speed running). There are 3 versions of each of the Thundercats' themes(i.e. Cheetara, Panthro, and Tygra for short intros (15-30 seconds), regular intros (1.0-1.5 minutes), and finally the full theme(2.5-3.0 minutes)). It does get repetitive, but it could make for a nice soundtrack if you just take the longest version of each.

Overall, there are 141 cues total for episodes 1-65 , and I just listed the 60 'main' ones."

And since there were total 130 episodes, the number of cues will be significantly larger than the 141 which Sonia already has.

Yeah I really hope FSM considers it smile. And since they have to put out the awesome Superman set, I am guessing their ties with WB studios are pretty good.

There's still a lot of great cartoon music waiting for a release...

Thundercats
G.I. Joe
Real Ghostbusters

I do consider the chance of a release to be extremely small.

That Cheetarah music is a bit too LADYHAWKE for my tastes, but I do love the main theme for THUNDERCATS. Most of the incidental music is way too campy, cheesy horn driven disco (which was long dated by 1985). Sounds more like generic early 80s TV ident music.

I would however welcome a CD release of all this!

Much better IMO is Frank Becker's evocative Sci-fi-Western music for BRAVESTARR:

Now THAT'S cartoon drama!!

or Saban's eerie scores for THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS cartoon.

Would Sony have to have any say in a release of REAL GHOSTBUSTERS music? Because as it is, they pretty much refuse to put any serious work into releasing the show itself on DVD. They basically said it doesn't deserve any kind of special treatment because "it's just a cartoon." Seriously, that's what they said in an interview; "just a cartoon." frown

True. I own their "best of" compilation dvd releases which pale in comparison to any decent season boxset release.

By the way, I found an interesting video on youtube on the production process of the Real Ghostbusters featuring Dan Ackroyd and Ivan Reitman:

They don't make cartoons this cool anymore...

I just saw a comment by someone in a video in youtube about the Thundercats soundtrack one week ago:

I e-mailed La La Land Records about the epic soundtrack. They say they're willing to release the epic soundtrack on CD.

I just hope it's true, and we can see one day this marvellous soundtrack!!
