I did a transfer of the old "Cinema Records" boot LP from the mid-to-late-70's LP (which had no track titles, or even divisions), providing my own track titles as follows:
1. Main Title -- Parachute Drop
2. Defeat and Capture
3. March to Prison Camp/Liberation
4. Freedom/The Boat Home
5. Algeria-Mahidi's Farewell
6. Home
7. A New Regiment
8. Resistance/A Brother's Death
9. Garrison in Algeria/A Warm Welcome
10. Rebel Camp
11. Ambush
12. Rahlin Village Massacre
13. Raid On The Camp
14. No Sign
15. Aicha's Theme
16. The Beach
17. Betrayal
18. Final Attack
19. Death of Mahidi
20. Honors-The Final Irony/End Titles
I'd love for SOMEONE to find a clean master of this one as the above album was pulled from the
film stems and dialogue can actually be faintly
heard bleeding through in certain tracks.
It was Waxman's last major score and was as good as anything he had done. (I also would love to have his true last score for the made-for-tv-movie, THE LONGEST 100 MILES, unfortunately, a Universal production.)

This movie is on Sony action channel in uk thismorning 10.40am. Not bad but Waxman score is decent
Apart from these recent Sony screenings, its rarely shown.
I had the old LP years ago but id like to get this score again.

While I can't speak for Turner Classic Movies in the UK, LOST COMMAND is licensed within their library here in the US; or at least it was until recently. In 2020 an overnight airing of that title closed out a TCM 24-hour day of Alain Delon roles -- which is how I finally got to see the picture, after recording it to view at a more convenient time. (Among other things, I'm glad I got George Segal's performance as an Arab before he left us!)
Maybe tcm.uk might bring exposure to the Brits. Once the "31 Days of Oscar" programming ends, perhaps they'll offer 24 hours of George Segal.

I am guessing that if this one was ever going to have a proper release, it would have been done by now. And there are the obvious reasons (lack of elements? Columbia Pictures disinterest?) for it's non-appearance.
It is a shame because, as the vinylscrubber has pointed out, it was Franz Waxman's last feature film score, and a fine piece of work it is.

I am guessing that if this one was ever going to have a proper release, it would have been done by now. And there are the obvious reasons (lack of elements? Columbia Pictures disinterest?) for it's non-appearance.
Several years ago it had often been stated by Lukas Kendall and a few others that many Columbia scores from the 60s hadn´t been preserved by the studio at that time. Just take for example LORD JIM, one of their large-scale productions from 1965: Only the album master had been available when FSM wanted to release the music on CD, but the complete score elements hadn´t survived.
I guess that the same is probably true for Waxman´s LOST COMMAND. There was certainly a reason why only the music stems could be used for the old Cinema LP bootleg in the 70s. But I am quite sure no label will release the score in that way with bits of dialogue bleeding through now and then. Ok, maybe with Goldsmith they would do it and even try to eliminate as much dialogue as possible, but not with Waxman.

Stefan, I suspect more could be done with the film's stems with current technology. The really intriguing thing is the now out of print DVD of the film had a stereo soundtrack, leading one to believe there might have been stereo stems at some point. Alas, I fear no one has the money or motivation to pursue this last great Waxman score for a market that will be literally dying off in the next few years.

Yes, this is just what I meant. Probably too much time and money would be needed for such an effort. And I don´t think that nowadays one of the US labels is willing to spend that money on this Waxman score anymore - at a time when it is almost only Goldsmith who still sells with regard to such older scores. If you look around and see what currently gets released all the time and what not, there is little hope for this Waxman score.
