I am absolutely thrilled that Lukas/FSM has released Leigh Harline (and Bob Merrill's) score to THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM!!!

I ordered it this morning without fail and am looking forward to hearing it, much as I did in its original incarnation nearly 50 years ago, where it was breathtaking in Cinerama 7-track stereo.

This release is a great surprise, an unexpected delight, and certainly worthy of everyone's interest and purchase!!! And at only 2000 copies it will most likely be a sell-out not only to filmmusic buffs, but also fans of fantasy films and the Cinerama process, itself.

........HOWEVER, I am also now concerned and disappointed that this release may well represent the "classic" MGM musical Lukas was working on two years ago. Although my guess at the time (as evidenced by this thread I've brought back) was a complete soundtrack for HIGH SOCIETY, in the back of my mind (and unsaid) I kept thinking of BROTHERS GRIMM as a more logical choice for Lukas to pursue, inasmuch as it is more a scoring achievement than a "real" MGM musical and thus, can be "snuck through" to the membership here which, for the most part, dislikes the whole idea of film musicals in general.

The choice of a "real" MGM classic musical for 1962, the year of BROTHERS GRIMM, would, of course, have been BILLY ROSE'S JUMBO, which still carried on the traditions of the classic MGM musicals of the past, what with the participation and contributions of Conrad Salinger, Alexander Courage, George Stoll, Doris Day, Jimmy Durante, etc. JUMBO was, probably, the last "classic" MGM musical---successful or not, notwithstanding THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, several years later.

I hope that Lukas is not too young to know what actually IS a "classic" MGM musical and I also hope that one day he will bite the bullet and issue, perhaps in a limited 1000-1200 copy edition, a "real" MGM "classic" musical.

But, if he is concerned mostly about ultimate production costs and sales quotas for a limited market, it may well be that he could take the current Made-On-Demand DVD route, and release some of these old MGM musicals on CDRs, with very limited art and liner notes. I'll buy any of these that he cares to assemble, and I'm sure there are others here who would, as well.

Meanwhile, I'd urge you to pick up your copy of BROTHERS GRIMM and support Lukas' fine work in bringing back these wonderful old scores.

Needless to say M, I heartily concur with all of your comments above.
If it were to be the only means of getting our hands on some longed for MGM Musical soundtracks,
I would be more than happy with CDR's.

Is such a project feasible Lukas ?

Also, needless to say...I was stunned and delighted to find out what Lukas & Co's latest gift to us was. Absolutely amazing and, of course, ordered in an instant!

The Cinerama sound was just incredible, and "TWWOTBG" is something I never thought I would own.

Thank-you SO much Lukas.
