There were indeed positives to last night's episode. Full of incident, nice space fx (sadly some lesser ones too), plenty of reveals so it wasn't boring. Even the lead actor was less scatty. Not a story in itself, more a part one. Companions weren't as wasted considering where they went at first.

Of course it's all part of the great retcon. Heard about the controversial side of this one, and naturally for an older fan hate it. Will reserve total judgement until the end of series to see how it pans out. But it was becoming like the Doctor Who version of the female Ghostbusters and we all know what happened there.

I am praying it's not that retcon. What I'm hoping for is a parallel. I'd be more comfortable with that.

In that interview, Chibnall also says that Jack isn't back this season. That's rubbish. The Gloucester Judoon scenes were shot in May 2019 (as per media reports at the time). The Barrowman scenes were shot FOUR MONTHS LATER, in September/October 2019 (as per his cover story on Instagram), by a different director - who just so happens to be directing the final two episodes of the season. Mark my words - Barrowman will be back for the finale. Probably along with the new Doctor, the Master, Gallifrey, the Judoon, and whoever hired the Judoon. So if Chibnall was lying about Captain Jack not appearing again, then why not lie about this new Doctor, too? That's just my theory of course.

It has been suggested that Chibnall was telling that Mirror reporter all that stuff because she'd already leaked S13 story details in previous Mirror articles... I doubt he's particularly pleased with her.

Have to say the latest 'new' Doctor acts JW of the screen - but that's not hard - even when the latter is treating it more seriously for a change. But she also has a better - proper - Tardis! If we do have to have a woman in the part keep her and jettison Jodie. I prefer a no-nonsense Doctor.

Dr Who has been shit for years and the latest series is total cack. They are spending so much time being woke (Asian female companion, black male companion who has some sort of mental health issue (although they seem to have forgotten about that) with a white father-in-law, a Doctor with boobies and the return of Jack fucking Harkness and his overt, unwelcome homosexuality rammed down our throats - pun intended) they forget stuff like actual plots.

Bradley Walsh though is terrific. Bradley Walsh should have been the Doc.

I often wonder what the modern Who showrunners saw in the old series they actually liked. They are all supposed to be fans of it but they are so intent on remaking it in their own image. The original was good basic storytelling with the thriller element to the fore, and only fleeting moments of humour that were more whimsy than anything, not breakneck speeded up comedy with masses of telling us what to think and how we should be.

And in my Whoniverse Bradley wakes up at the end of the first episode to realise he was The Doctor all along.

I'm pretty sure some of the older male Doctors had "boobs".

We call 'em moobs. As in short for man boobs.

No. He's not and he shouldn't. He's a pseudo Bernard Cribbins.

Worst episode of the season so far. Once again the heavy handed environmental moralising, and a plot that made little sense with characters doing things that made little sense. Seems anyone can fly an alien ship with ease.

Superb idea! And yes, fully in agreement with you about the current show runners. Perhaps they are true fans but just not rye good writers etc.

I'll second that.

Hmm. IMO, the latest episode was better than the Awfu— sorry, Orphan 55, but still a bit eye-rolly, especially in comparison to the previous week's, which was full of promising/intriguing set-ups.

Suppose if they've got a mix of good, bad, and indifferent episodes, they've got to mix them up and sprinkle the bad ones among the better ones rather than clustering them together, which would put off too many viewers.

Or if that's too daring, just get rid of Ryan, the most pointless companion ever.

Adric: hold my gold star.

Ehh… basic premise had promise but, boy oh boy, did it lose steam fast from exposition overload. And there's just too many inconsequential supporting characters cluttering the action and diluting whatever dramatic tension this story hoped to generate.

Well I thought it was at least better than Orphan 55. The preaching seemed better spread throughout, except it was still preaching and again subtle as a brick. JW was again less scatty than usual, but undermined when she runs around and that ridiculous outfit flaps about. Bad as it was (and it was bad) but I don't remember Colin Baker's costume having the same effect on me. The companions were better used, up to the level of soap stars. The locations were nice again though they often throw into sharp focus how cheap the studio stuff looks.

Among things I've read the Sea Devils were going to make an appearance before the producers changed their minds, and there was possibly new companion material in there. Whatever, the UK overnight ratings for this latest 'classic' were an all-time low of 3.97.

Wow, this series sounds like a dumpster fire. When will these corporate idiots hire talented people who know and care about the franchises they are working on again?

Anyone familiar with Chibnal's priors already knew the series was gonna go to the dogs with him both running and writing for the show.

About time -- no pun intended -- ! Episode 8 is the very first one from the Whittaker series I've enjoyed! Never heard of Maxine Alderton before, but I've found her script a clever and exciting one!

I'm not keen on the idea that tonight's episode climax is suggesting:

Time Lords descended from humans

That's just my speculation.

Even putting that possibility aside, that bunch of last-surviving humans were supposed to be way in the future, right? After lengthy cyber-wars? So why do they still look exactly like present-day humans? Have we not evolved at all in all that time? Pah!
