This is my first post so if I have missed a prior post about this forgive me. Who else is stoked about the release of Hanover Street finally being released ? I understand that John Barry is probably not well known by newer film music fans but he is my all time favorite ! Honey, I shrunk the kids was a Disney film, so I am also hoping that "The Black Hole" will get released on CD. FSM maybe ? Any other big Barry fans out there ? Hanover Street is supposed to ship April 6th !

Welcome! You chose an awkward time for your first post. The board has been put of order recently, so that's probably why you were unable to find the previous thread on this topic.
But who cares? It's a great score and deserves at least three different threads! wink
I haven't seen the flick in a long ass time, but I remember the music and really dig the re- recorded theme on the silva box.
John Barry is a class act and I'm stoked to finally have this new disc.

Watch out here comes Alex!

Alex is merely the most vocal Barry fan here now. Going back ten years and I think I was possibly the most vocal Barry fan here!? I'll bow to Alex though, I never started as many Barry threads as he haswink

Myself, Alex, Geoffers, Woolston,Peter G and others are MASSIVE Barry fans.

I've always admired his work, but lately I've been relistening to all of it and it just proves how nice it is to have stepped back from an artist's work for a while only to appreciate it even more. The man is brilliant, and I am looking forward to HS.

Those words could've come out of my mouth! The Black Hole is on the top of my list of wanted scores. If a release is possible, it can only come from Intrada at this point!

Lol, i'm sure it was time to give you all a rest of the Barry threads. Maybe a new youngster will come and take my place.

I also am an enormous Barry fan. I can't think of anyone else who has ever achieved the same balance between great scoring and listenable albums. If someone cares to suggest some ... because I'd love to expand my collection, of course!

Hi what all have you got of Barry's

The Last Valley

Nah, you don't have to "step back" ...

... just play music by someone else.smile

Wayoutwest - I have most of Barry's stuff with the exception of harder to find things like Jagged Edge and Quiller. I'm holding out for a rerelease of both.

I was meaning more that I've never found another composer who could underscore a film as well, while still providing a listenable experience on the LP/CD - I'd love to.

Having just listened to the HANOVER STREET CD, I have to say

1) THANK YOU VARESE SARABANDE. This has fulfilled a great wish of mine for 30 years.

and

2) I think I prefer the revised cues at the end to the original ones. Maybe it's because I know them so well from the film. I especially think the "Finale" revision at the end is better than the other 2 versions.

Lucky you, i havent even received a shipment note from SAE yet. And my status is still "pending"!

I haven't received a shipment note yet either (but mine is from Varese themselves), even though I placed my order literally within 60 seconds of the disc appearing on the site.

Obviously, Varese's orders are not fulfilled in order of ordering. Maybe they do it alphabetically, in which case I will come pretty much last!

Cheers

I've had them for two days now and the first one I played was Barry's. Never saw the movie, critics savaged it back in the day.

Not surprised by this score one bit, really solid, great musical ideas, at first its comfortable Barry territory, but that Love Theme, I've got it stuck in my head!

To make matters worse, the love theme plays back in my head as the song, Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly) from So Dear To My Heart (1949). The vocal is by Burl Ives!

I think I'll take the rest of the day off.

I think that's right Steve - I also come quite close to the end of the alphabet, and I ordered directly from Varese. I don't have a shipping notice either.
