A long time ago The Mutant suggested this score, so I took a listen to the cues on SAE and finally ordered it recently. He was sooo right! Kickass score! So much so that I had to get the Blu-ray (separate thread to come under General Discussion) and TFC is a pretty decent film, too... IMHO.

Your thoughts on the score? (And forgive if there's a posting previously for this, but I'm finding it hard as a relative newbie to search for previous threads.)

Great theme but the rest is average, like most John Scott scores! You can hear why he never became a major force in film scoring. Shame, he was so close.

I've seen the film several times (including on its original cinema release) and enjoy it immensely ... so many well-known actors even in the smaller roles.

I enjoy good time-travel stories and this is a great one ... a wonderful idea nicely played out.

As for Mr. Scott's music I'm not so taken with the militaristic pieces, though accept they're essential with the images. But when that whistle comes in towards the end as we, the audience, and Martin Sheen's character begin to realise there's more to the time-travel events than time-travel itself ...

... well the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. Those (regretfully) short themes are GORGEOUS!

I enjoy the CD score a lot ... it's a much better listen than I'd expected and I'm pleased I opted to buy it after waiting some time after its release.

The movie is really one of my favorite movies to watch. The score is pretty good too and I'm glad I bought the full score on CD, it's a fun to listen to. "Shake Up The Zeros" is my favorite of the cues.

Thoroughly enjoyable. I remember watching the movie first-run in the cinemas, and the music stuck with me for a long time, before I finally got ahold of the CD, like, fifteen years later.

I'm glad you're diggn' it!

This thread has got me listening to it again. I've never actually seen the flick...

Great theme, but this wailing saw (?) destroys pretty much everything for me.

While I enjoy many of Scott's efforts, this one is right up there with A BRIDGE TOO FAR as a score that conceptually really misses the boat (or carrier.)

That march just does not speak to the sci-fi aspects of the film at all.

The theme reminds me of Tintin the animation series

Loved the film and the score.

It always felt to me like a "Star Trek" episode without the "Trek" elements. wink

OK, it's not up there with "Antony and Cleopatra" (that's beyond comparison, anyway...), "Yor", "Shogun Mayeda" or even "The Shooting Party" but the one thing I've learned for sure so far is that it's nearly impossible to go really wrong with John Scott - I didn't go wrong with this one!

Once again, another John Scott score wherein the main theme is instantly memorable and addictive.
He sure can whack out a theme!
I haven't seen the film since I watched it at the cinema back when it was first released. I remember enjoying it, although I don't recall the score standing out while viewing it.
I agree the theme doesn't seem to acknowledge the science-fiction/fantasy element of things and presses ahead as a straightforward military/war march. The WWII aspect is much better covered and represented.
I quite liked the strange noise he used to evoke the time warp. That was pretty cool. And there's a short, classical style Love Theme that also seems quite nice.
I'm only at listen number 1, so I'm sure I will pick up on other aspects of the music with future listens. So far so good though.

Love this score. It was one of my first favorite scores. Thought it was brilliant. Went well with the movie. I know a non soundtrack fan who loves the score. Its why I started listening to scott

I remember trying to find the score and always finding "The Final Countdown" rock album or artist. Drove me crazy.

It's more a feature length 'Twilight Zone' feature Serling never got to make.
I like the movie very much. My only problem with it is that the characters never really get to do anything proactive. They know better then to change history so they end up being little more than spectators. For all that, it works way better than it should.

I really like the score. Exciting, tense, very memorable themes.

My favourite Scott soundtrack. I saw the film on its original release and it was okay back then but now an average Discovery channel shows more action in its first 10 minutes than the entire film did in its complete run. This is one time where the actors make the film, most of all Martin Sheen. His character is the most interesting bar none, and he plays it to the maximum.

The music is absolutely fantastic and is a film in sound. It's one of those soundtracks that enable you to make your own story as listen to it whilst commuting to work. I remember being incredibly disappointed and angry at my parents for not getting me the LP when I saw it back in the early 80s. It was the only time I ever saw it so when I finally got the CD, I was delighted to see a hunt of nearly two decades come to an end, and the joy was repeated when the new issue truly turned out to be an upgrade.

Disappointing that the response here is so mellow on average. Then again it fits my tastes. Things I like don't make dent and what causes others her to grab for a crate of Kleenex, couldn't leave me less cold if it were dipped in ice water.

Good score but not my favourite.
I don't like the flashy Main theme for sure but I DO LOVE "Mr. and Mrs. Tideman" melody and its fantastic "Eastern-Europe" orchestration.

One of my favourite John Scott scores, with a knockout theme. Nice chap. Met him at Rare Discs in London several years ago when he was signing copies of his CDs.

Good score , really like the main themes, the march and MR Tideman's theme. John Scott was always great at delivering memorable themes that stick with you long after viewing the film or hearing the score, As for the movie I seem to like it more then most. I love time travel stories they create deep thinking in us all. Of course there is plenty of interesting lines along the way, but the one I always enjoyed was the bit, If I could go back in time and have a fight with my father before I was born and kill him Then how could I be born to go back in time to kill him[ha-ha] wonderful thought[those were not the exact words, letter by letter spoken, but that was the drift]The film was fun with a great cast . However when I saw the film in the theatres over 30 years ago and seeing it with people over the years since, many of them say the same thing. The ending is a cop out, it seem to be offering some great potential and then fails to deliver. Not just the action fans were disappointed but many of the average viewers who just was waiting for the 1970's air force to wipe out the Japanese fleet. Because this did not occurred many people shrug their heads and say , it was ok, but it should have been made for TV. In a way that logic makes sense.

A very good score, but not without some corny moments (I cringe at the quote of the national anthem in "Operation Pearl Harbor"). On the other hand the love theme is one of Scott's most beautiful, and "Back Through The Time Warp" is excellent.
