Has this score ever been available in any form ever? Laserdisc isolated score, 8 track, reel to reel, cassingle... anything? I'm desperate.

You mean outside the Elmer Bernstein-conducted "rerecording" for the remake?

No legitimate release for the OST 1962 tracks- I emphasize the word LEGITIMATE- and that's about all I'm going to say...

There is also a 5:40 suite of the "Prelude | The School | Panic | Finale" recorded by The City Of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Paul Bateman that has appeared on a number of Silva Screen's Bernard Herrmann collections.

Yeah I just assume there's illegitimate copies of everything out there somewhere.

I hate it when I want to own something that's never existed.

Bernstein's re-recorded version is good too.

Just track down the Tsunami release of this. Apparently it is legal in austria.

Can't steal it if it's not for sale or doesn't exist right?

The Silva suite is really good, and reflects Herrmann's film recording than Bernstein's version (which I love for its own merits, both in the film and on record). I would really like to have the original tracks or a faithful re-recording. I bought a few Tsunami discs way back before I knew what their deal was and was not impressed by the sound. I would hope that one of our labels has this score in their sights.

Then again, I'm a well-known Herrmann fanatic who eagerly snaps up multiple versions of his scores, so take that into account when weighing my comments.

Um… while we're on the topic, a re-recording of On Dangerous Ground wouldn't exactly be unwelcome either, if anybody's listening. The FSM release is one of my most oft-played Herrmann scores despite the sound quality issues because it's such a beautiful score.

Most agreed... The Elmer Bernstein adapted and conducted version for the remake is quite good. Years ago when Varese was doing their Herrmann re-recordings with Joel McNeely I was surprised this was not included in that group.

Years ago (like two and half decades ago) I was visiting my grandparents and in the other room on the TV I heard the music and knew instantly what it was. Our state public television was broadcasting it during one of their fund drives. Superb music score...

Maybe one day... but do check out the remake soundtrack if you can find it.

Does anybody happen to have any info on this one?

Yeah, that's the Tsunami version. It's crazy that this hasn't come out officially.

It also continues to be used for Sideshow Bob's theme on The Simpsons. razz

Amazing. This is turning out to be one of those nights. This one's for you, Swashbuckler: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=22670&forumID=1&archive=1

The unmentionables are mono. I assume this was recorded in stereo, being 1962

We're missing so many Herrmann/Universal scores. Where are the original tracks for:

MARNIE
CAPE FEAR
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
PSYCHO (lost?)
COMPANIONS IN NIGHTMARE
maybe some additional tracks for the rejected TORN CURTAIN?

The theme is similar, but not the same. One has a rising interval where the other has a descending one.

(of course given that the theme was written for the episode called "Cape Feare" it's pretty obvious that it was a deliberate homage)

Back in the early 90s I catalogued the music tracks that were then still at Paramount.
Alot, but not all of Man Who Kne Too Much was there, and almost ALL of Trouble with Harry was there.

I love how John Williams uses the motif in TERMINAL and how Alan Silvestri does it in the third NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM !
