Akira Ifukube fans take note: The TOHO MUSIC label has just issued the second installment in their Science Fiction soundtrack series - a double CD featuring the complete original soundtracks from THE MYSTERIANS (1957) and BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1959), by original Godzilla composer Akira Ifukube. The first release in the series (in 2006) was 1969's LATITUDE ZERO, and THE THREE TREASURES (1959) is slated to come out in November.

The new CD is exclusively available only at www.arksquare.net, though SAE will likely also carry it at some point (they currently stock LATITUDE ZERO and other Toho Music releases). All of these classic scores have been out of print since the 90s, and they showcase the talents of Mr. Ifukube at the top of his game...

Thanks for the heads up. smile The perfect compliment to the Toho DVD box set that's coming in August.

Thanks for the heads up. I have the prior Toho CD release of "The Mysterians" but it might be worth getting this double-decker for "Battle". Also thank you for the information concerning "The Three Treasures" -- that will be an automatic purchase. I have the DVD with isolated track -- but have never prepared a compiliation for myself of the score as a separate listen.

Thanks again.

This is great news. Thanks! I've been in a mood for Italian and Japanese horror/sci-fi music lately.

Now if only someone would re-release MATANGO, that would make my year.

That's a wonderful score, with a great variety of dramatic as well as traditional-sounding themes. Hopefully the new release will give it some well-deserved exposure among film music fans.

I'm sure MATANGO is also planned, as the series is supposed to include non-Ifukube scores as well. HALF HUMAN, MOTHRA, THE H-MAN and THE HUMAN VAPOR are also likely candidates, as 22 soundtracks from 1955-1969 are scheduled (though the remaining titles have not yet been announced).

The Ark Square site says release date is July 28, and Screen Archives' page doesn't say anything about Pre-order... so is this available now?

EDIT: never mind... I was confused by the November reference above, but see now it was intended for another CD.

Hello Increbula! Since you seem to know a bit more than us about upcoming TOHO re-releases, could you please post news whenever you have anything new to share (like: new titles announced, dates of release,...etc.)?
That would be terrific to know and very kind of you! smile
Thanks!

Another question for you, Increbula: I believe "THE THREE TREASURES" (Akira Ifukube) has never been released before, or has it?
Hmmm, I'm just seeing that, in fact, it has (in their "Complete Recordings" line. I found these links, that are quite cool: http://www.tohokingdom.com/media/cd_covers.htm + http://www.tohokingdom.com/images/media/cd_cover/three_treasures_front.jpg + http://www.tohokingdom.com/images/media/cd_cover/three_treasures_back.jpg (woah! More than 55 tracks!!!)! wink

Below are 20 titles that should be re-released (still missing 2... if anyone wishes to complete based on their guesses or that they already know the real list, that's cool!):

1) THE MYSTERIANS (already re-released and coupled with BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE)
http://www.godzillamonstermusic.com/TSFCD-05~06.htm
2) BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (already re-released and coupled with THE MYSTERIANS)
3) RODAN
4) VARAN THE UNBELIEVABLE
5) ATRAGON
6) DAGORA
7) FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD
8) WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS
9) LATITUDE ZERO (which was already re-released)
10) THE THREE TREASURES (next one to be re-released, probably as a 2-CD set)
11) KING KONG ESCAPES
12) YOG, THE MONSTER FROM SPACE
13) HALF HUMAN
14) THE H-MAN
15) MATANGO
16) SECRET OF THE TELEGIAN
17) THE HUMAN VAPOR
18) MADAME WHITE SNAKE
19) GORATH
20) MOTHRA

... and here is the direct link to the TOHO series soundtracks:

======================

On my side, I'm an already lucky owner of them all, but can't wait to grab them again, whenever more tracks will be added to each title!... oh hell with it, I will grab them again even if no more tracks were to be found/added wink yep, that's how mad I am about this music!
One of the coolest and most rare ones, is of course: "VARAN THE UNBELIEVABLE" aka "DAIKAIJÛ BARAN" (Akira Ifukube): http://www.godzillamonstermusic.com/G5500.htm
(Damn, it took me soooo long to finally get an original copy, that I framed it and never played the CD! Ahahah, only jokin', this one gives me the shivers!) wink

I just hope they get through their 22 releases before they decide CDs aren't viable any longer.

And don't forget about the final GODZILLA boxset! frown

BTW, can anyone comment on the sound and other differences between these reissues and the Futureland releases?

I get weak in the knees just looking at these lists...so many amazing titles.

And oh boy please bring us that final Godzilla box, too!

Poor Varan...he got the short end of the stick in his career. One film and a brief cameo in DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. The US version used music by Albert Glasser and little of the original score.
Bring back VARAN!!! How about a battle with Anguirus? smile

Varan should have been in "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" (2001), but Toho execs insited on replacing him with the more popular King Ghidorah (even though it makes no sense for the charaxcter to be in that story, and they had to completely rewrite his origin).

Hey everyone!

Is THE THREE TREASURES still planned on coming out this November?
Is it going to be coupled with something else?

I would buy that one in a heartbeat (and even faster, but I ain't no Usain Bolt)!

Yes, The Three Treasures is slated for a November release, as a 2-CD set (as far as I know), so I doubt it will be combined with any other film score.

We are only a few days away from November! Can't wait to see that new TOHO release!

If someone already has any news/links/images,...etc. to show us, please do so smile

Can someone tell me if this new release of Mysterians/Battle In Outer Space is worth getting if I already own the Futureland versions?

Surely the artwork will be better (Futureland series sucked in that department).

But is there a worthy sound improvement or extra tracks?
