If America went to great efforts to ban smoking commercials, they should have just as well banned alcohol commercials years ago . Double standard perhaps.
If you can't get assault rifles with 30-round clips banned in the USA, what are your chances of getting beer ads banned? Not raising a political issue, just making a cultural observation. (No political rejoinders, please!)
Just cultural observation as well.Unless they are lighting a cigarette while driving, i never heard of anyone crashing while smoking.[pot sure]but not a regular cigarette. However, drinking or drunk while driving. So i say again, they should have hit the beer commercials with the smoking commercials in the 70's, fair is fair.
Ads for "Ye Olde Carlsberg" --one of my favorite "session" beers--features that ball-crushing actor from Casino Royale (2006), and he drinks the beer. How refreshing.
Yes, this is a UK ad, but to a "Why Don't They Drink the Beer"-in commercials guy like myself, it is invigorating.
The main purpose of a beer commercial is to show off your brand. Perhaps another reason why they don't drink beer in the commercials. They don't want hands covering the label.

The drinking of the beer--in this instance, "Ye Olde Carlsberg"--is not consumed until the absolute end of the ad. It serves as the commercial's "punctuation" after the ad has glamorized and otherwise built up the product, so I can't accept your view.
