I disagree. I think both the score and the film are quite satisfying. The plot is filled with twists and turns, wonderful performances from all the principals, and a neat kicker of an ending. It may not be the masterpiece that "The Magnificent Seven" or "High Noon" is, but it has its place in the western genre, and I'm damn glad to have it on dvd. It remains a film I enjoy every time I see it.
The Charles Strouse (nobody mentioned him) score never clicked with me. Maybe I will give it another shot sometime.
Found this old discussion. Not sure what there is NOT to like in this wonderful, funny and cool Charles Strouse score. Wished there were an available recording, or at least a youtube video summarizing it.
