So Rozsa's "VIPs" is not Sunday Afternoon listening - but this Shire opus is? ... what type wine, praytell, does Onya drink whilst listening to '70s political paranoia on a Sunday Afternoon in the 21st century?
70s paranoid political conspiracy thrillers (The Conversation, Parallax, Condor) are the ultimate in wine- or bourbon-drinking music, preferably with dim lighting.
I bought this on its release for Michael Small's Klute (1971) as I'd seen the film two or three times and knew I enjoyed the score. I can't recall if I'd seen All the President's Men (1976) then and David Shire has never been a composer I would buy on the off-chance ...
The last time we played Klute I was asking myself what it was I had, until then, liked in the score ... it was doing nothing for me. Perhaps the mood I was in ...
and yet, whilst I don't consider the other score to be wonderful, I do usually enjoy it, especially the insistence of the CREEP Sequence. As it's >2yrs since last played I hope that it still resonates with me ...
... and my next play of Klute brings back the listening pleasure it once generated.
