I thought Raksin never did any radio, but he appears to have done an episode of Arch Oboler’s plays.

And I wouldn’t be so keen to mention it here but for the fact that the play seemed to have run short, so besides providing the underscore, he got some minutes at the end of the broadcast to conduct some of his music (excerpts from pieces called “The Children” and “Nocturne”) which just almost NEVER happens.

If anyone wants to hear it, please say so and I will post links or a place to download.

My God, how much could Raksin do with a cymbal and a tympani stick?!?!?

Stream or download it here:

Scroll down or search the page to find the episode called "The Naked Mountain."

And I'll bet none of you-guys miss the joke at the very beginning of the play.

Once again, Mr. F, your humor got past me.

Just listen to any of Oboler's LIGHTS OUT plays and check out the invariable "scoring".

By the way, I'm directing and acting in a staged reading of Oboler's "Cat Wife" in a few weeks. We're double-billing it with SUSPENSE's "Dead Ernest".

Pass. I heard one LIGHTS OUT and found it icky.

BTW, the episode is of the series called ARCH OBOLER'S PLAYS, which I should have capitalized in my first post.

....and.... Break a leg!

Not only was that a cool set of Raksin pieces but I discovered that Arch Oboler adaptation of Dalton Trumbo's JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN starring James Cagney. He was superb and this is when the book just came out!

That Cagney show is outstanding.

He wrote the ballet music for the "Lady from Guadalupe" number, in the Bing Crosby musical, JUST FOR YOU.

Even though it's not in imdb.com I can hear his writing. It's great.

But dang-it, it's not on YouTube.

The Library of Congress article about animation music says Raksin did 4 UPA cartoons.

I'm finding only 3 on the dvd set:
Giddyap
Madeline
Unicorn in the Garden

Anybody know the last?

This obit ( https://www.cartoonbrew.com/old-brew/upa-composer-passes-away-400.html ) reads:

"...who scored several classic UPA cartoons in the 1950s, including The Unicorn in the Garden, Madeline, Sloppy Jalopy and Giddyap..."
