Hi people!

At work to Harry Potter IV it came to an disagreement between composer John Williams and another director of the Harry Potter series. It seems that director PETER YATES (Harry Potter And The Order Of Phoenix, Harry Potter Ant The Halfblood Prince) didn't like Williams composition for GOBLET OF FIRE, so the creator of the magnificent music of Harry Potter I-III withdraw his music and left the cast of the series.

Although I like PATRICK DOYLES astounding fresh soundtrack very much at last and have to admit that NICHOLAS HOOPER's scores are more smoothly as Williams' prior works I must still weep a silent tear for Williams. If he had completed the series he would have shown what he is capable in his late artistic phase; very possibly he could have produced some work of art.

Besides I am the opinion that a series like Harry Potter would be more coherent if only one composer were engaged.

I would be glad to see a release in any way of the unfortunately rejected score of John Williams. I am sure I would enjoy his possibly last output to Harry Potter.

Thanks folks and have a nice weekend!

There is a lot wrong with your post. John Williams was never involved in Goblet of Fire, he declined to continue scoring the series at that point because he was currently signed to do 4 scores in that one year (2005 - those being Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich, War of the Worlds and Revenge of the Sith) and felt that a 5th would be too much. Also, the director of GoF, Mike Newall (not DAVID Yates) wanted to work with his frequent collaborator Patrick Doyle. Williams never wrote music for GoF or was even signed on at all to do so. It is unknown if Williams has been approached since to return to the franchise, as Yates was happy working with his own frequent collaborator Nicholas Hooper (and felt more comfortable doing so on his first major film effort). The liner notes for HBP suggest Hooper was the only choice for that film and the only reason Hooper pulled out of DH is because of the strain these big scoring projects were putting on his personal life; if not for this I'm sure Hooper would still be on board for DH. As such, Alexandre Desplat has been hired, which makes sense as Hooper's style is reminiscent to Desplat's. See how much of your post was incorrect?

I recall reading that a summer '05 program for the Boston Pops stated that Williams would be scoring Goblet of Fire. So, it seems as though he was slated to do it, but those other four jobs made it impossible. (Didn't Munich's production schedule run over?)

Run over? Nope. It started shooting in July and wrapped in Sept for a Dec release, which has to be some sort of record/miracle for a film of that scale and complexity.

Williams had committed to "Memoirs of a Geisha" well before filming even began (according to the 'making of' featurette on the DVD/Blu-Ray, it's the only film he ever actively campaigned to score). So when the post-production schedule ended up clashing with "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", he obviously chose "Memoirs of a Geisha".

I'm actually glad things worked out as they did. With "Memoirs of a Geisha", Williams was able to produce a score that I consider a work of art (just don't get me started on the Oscars, otherwise 'cirtap' will have nothing on the trouble I'll cause), and, with "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Patrick Doyle wrote the finest non-Williams score for the Harry Potter series (so far at least; I think Desplat will knock it out of the park).

Nor was David Yates involved in the series at the point when Goblet of Fire was being made, so there's no way he would have been involved in that decision at all.

Never mind, I saw the identical post by MP92 on Superman Returns. What a waste of time.

Eh, I figured it was a parody of this one.

QUOTE: "HUH? Something is missing here. Williams never composed for that Harry Potter"

This kind of message was written in a german tv magazine. Don't know if that information is correct. Do anyone know where I can get more information about this first hand and trustworthy?

That Mike Newell wanted to work with Patrick Doyles is logical and plausible, but I don't have claimed other things.

Nice weekend
