I'm surprised that I can't find anyone discussing this film score, but then I shouldn't be since my luck with the search engine here is about on par with my ability to get my landlord to accept grocery store coupons for my rent.
A couple of excerpts. I've always thought it reminds me of Benjamin Britten filtered through Alex North. (Read: not for the lovers of swooshy romance, grand tonal statements, or toe-tapping pop!)
Warning about watching the whole film: even though I really like the film score, I fell asleep watching it in the theater (when the director was in attendance, yet!).

Proof once again that the gay community is a lot more peaceful; well at least physically. Me personally if that maker of Cremaster had been within my reach, I'd rip his goddamned entrails out and make him eat it, and I'd have to stand in a long line of car lovers. That piece of crap ruined several 60s Chryslers for his "art". That bastard, Tarantino and several others, better never show up near me. I'm a peaceful man at heart really I am but there are limits and you cross them, you're mine.

D.S.
At the time, Mr. Stu, Barney had not yet made the Cremaster film that included the Chrysler massacre (and his own strange, very, very, very, VERY personal close-up). The Youtube clips above are from an earlier Cremaster film (you probably know already that the names of them are NOT in order of their production).
Used to have the score on CD. Since like some atonal music "tried " to like it. Watching the film was almost as bad as a root canal. You've said it (almost) correctly, not for the faint of heart. I got the CD in used CD section and apparently was a promo. No longer have it.
I can spin it and listen carefully, almost imagining the different instruments playing their lines, and imagine the notes on the page, it's that "transparent" a sound.
Oh man, just the other day me and ten other dudes in Wal-Mart were discussing "Bepler: Cremaster 5". It just keeps coming up over and over and over again! I find myself cursing the name "Bepler: Cremaster 5" sometimes.
All right, David, you win - your diligence over these years has always made me click the links. Found it for not too much on Amazon and had some credit built up, so I'm taking a chance by not taking a chance (since it's not costing any real money).
Thanks for your persistence. And no, I'm not gonna try the film - what I've seen on youtube and read on wikipedia will do for me.

I think this means you bought the soundtrack (for cheap), but not the video. And plan not to watch the video.
Hilariously enough, I was just thinking yesterday that I need to add this to my iTunes library. That's where I do all my soundtrack listening these days, and I haven't uploaded it yet.
But I will soon, and I will actually report back in 2019 just to shock you.
