Chris Chris, the general consensus is that the sound effects actually begin to work as part of the overall sound design, once you get used to them. They almost become integral to the musical experience. That's the general consensus. My personal feeling is that they are grating. No matter how much I want to veil my words I actually do get that "taped off the TV" feel. "Better than nothing?" you ask. Of course! It's a great score! If somebody said to me, "I'll take the CD off your hands and give you nothing in return", I'd be a fool to say yeah okay. Chris I'd definitely take music and effects over nothing. How intrusive? Well, a bit but it's managable. Starring Mary Tyler Moore "who can turn the world on with a smile" As for SATAN BUG, after the first listen, I was left with the unpleasant impression that all cues had effects, partly because of the climax with the helicopter. Actually most of the music doesn't, but it can take a few plays to get this. Even one defect in any audio can ruin an initial experience until you learn to expect it, and can ignore it. Or you could make a playlist of music-only cues. If you're only getting it to complete your Goldsmith collection, you won't be disappointed. The Satan Bug can't be debugged? What can I say - on first viewing of the movie on TV, that insistent, plot enhancing, 'device' used by JG in the soundtrack really bugged me.
