As a lot of you know, we're working on a special, limited edition 4 Disc Box Set of Mark Snow's amazing music from The X-Files. This is a joyous, yet mammoth undertaking, as you can all imagine. La-La Land, along with Mr. Snow, have narrowed down a selection of episodes that represent some of the very best musical moments from this beloved series. Some of the episodes on this list may not end up musically represented on the project, but we felt we wanted to share with you the overall pool of episodes we are focusing on.... a sneak peek at our process, if you will.

We are doing this because we'd like to ask you all, the fans, if there are any musical moments from episodes NOT included on this list that you are passionate about. While we can't promise your suggestions will end up in the final assembly, we will certainly take them into very serious consideration -- and remember -- if this set sells well, more will follow, and this makes your suggestions all the more important for future X-Files releases!

I'm not familiar enough to have any say, but I think what your doing is great, letting the fans chime in. I can't EVEN imagine the amount of work of going through 9 freaking seasons of music to try to find 4 discs worth, WOW. Just me thinking about it, makes me want to grab a drink.

Good luck, I know whatever ends up on the discs will be super duper.

Even though I was only a casual fan of the show and missed its last few seasons, I am looking forward to this box set as it is guaranteed to be a chock full of great highlights.

The cue by Moby used when Mulder finds Samantha (CLOSURE?) but I realize that would be extra licensing hassles. ASCENSION has that great bit in the finale when Mulder stares into the night sky following Scully's disappearance.

I'm currently re-watching the series on DVD and have just finished disc 3 of season six. All the episodes I remember for the music are in your list. I especially love the use of the "Crater Hug" theme from the movie score in the episodes "The Red and the Black" and "The End". Great work, can't wait to get this set!

Wow. I have no clue of the X-FILES at all, but I just wanted to applaud your approach and openness to fans' preferences, MV!

How about that gorgeous music from the season 2 or 3 episode 'Grotesque' where Mulder goes to and looks around the killers apartment.

Just wanted to say that I am excited for this release. Although the music had such a strong influence on the overall feel of the show, the most unique and memorable cues that I recall offhand are included in the following episodes:

Season 3:
3x04 Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
3x12 War of the Coprophages
3x20 Jose Chung's From Outer Space

Season 4:
4x03 Home

Season 5:
5x06 Post Modern Prometheus
5x12 Bad Blood

Season 6:
6abx03 Triangle
6abx08 How The Ghosts Stole Christmas

Season 7:
7abx18 Hollywood AD

Season 9:
9abx19 The Truth Part 1
9abx20 The Truth Part 2

Thanks for doing this. I have been excited for months and cannot wait until this (and hopefully future releases) occur.

Two musical moments from episodes NOT on the list that I am very passionate about:

(1) Please consider looking at the two-parter CHRISTMAS CAROL and EMILY from Season 5. The scores for these episodes are just gorgeous. In particular, listen to that scene at the very end of EMILY, in the church, where they visit Emily's coffin and Scully retrieves her cross. That wordless chorus, and those twinkling bells ... in my opinion, this is the single most beautiful cue Snow wrote for the series.

(2) I would also draw your attention to SYNCHRONY from Season 4. I will edit this post when I find the exact scene (I have the audio ripped to my computer), but there's a montage where one of the characters is walking from somewhere to another. For almost three minutes, there's no dialogue -- Snow's music is allowed to predominate. It's a wonderful, moody, expressive piece of work, and it really stands out. [EDIT: OK, the cue starts at 20:40 in the episode.]

Thanks for asking! I'm sure this will be a terrific set, and I can't wait to hear it!

As long as the music for the sequence where the 'army' is hunting for the alien at night before getting burned from 'Fallen Angel' is represented...I will be forever grateful. I cannot wait for this release!

I'm partial to the devil worshipping school teachers episode. i don't know what it's called or what season it was in but it had some omen-type chanting and primitive tribal rythym stuff for the big evidence eating snake at the end.

I believe that one was called 'Die Hand Der Verletz' from season 2

Wow, what a list and possibly more to come!!!!! Kudos!!!!

Any chance that the alternate x-files theme from 'The Secrets of the X-files' could make a future appearance or some tracks from Squeeze/Tooms, The Jersey Devil and Redux Part 1?

Seconded.

Also I'd like to single out Soft Light in the list of episodes under consideration. I think that score is among the most memorable pieces of music from the entire run of the series and I'd hate to see it missing from the collection.

Other than that, MUCH thanks to this approach of communicating directly to fans/consumers. Generating buzz, anticipation, and good will like this will certainly pay off. I'm stashing away pennies now so I can afford to be there on day one. Hell, I'd pay now for it if I could.

Great news! Anyway, I can't say from the top of my head but I will look into the first three seasons as I thought that featured the best music.

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

i would add FEARFUL SYMETRY from s.2

For me , the last two seasons are the lowest priority. To ensure that ALL the best music is presented ,I suggest you leave them off this set and save them for a potential volume two.

cant wait for this release!

PS
if you need some help with the notes, i am availablesmile

YES!

There is one cue that needs to be in the set. It was featured in The Truth And The Light but was marred with a dialogue snippet during its very end.

Its the final cue from the Season One episode Conduit, where Mulder is praying in the church.

Oh My Goodness!! Fantastic job, La La Land! Being such a HUGE fan of the series and the music I think you just made me the happiest guy on earth.

There are a few WONDERFUL cues that I think you should definitely look into...please consider them! I assure you they are definitely worth your time to listen to.

As mentioned previously, SYNCHRONY (Season 4, Episode 19) features a wonderful long sequence of music where one character is following another across town. The cue features a repeated flute motif. It's wonderfully haunting.

Season 6:

Episode 7 (THE RAIN KING):

1) Sheila tells Mulder and Scully it's all her fault (19:55-22:12)

2) Mulder confronts Holman (27:53-30:00)

Season 7:

Episode 15 (EN AMI). Cigarette Smoking Man and Scully at dinner (32:52-35:34)

Season 8:

Episode 10 (SALVAGE) "A Flicker of Humanity" (40:55-43:35)

Episode 6 (INVOCATION) Snow does a beautiful rendition of "All the Pretty Horses" in the teaser sequence.

Season 9:

Episode 13 (AUDREY PAULEY)

1)Reyes is released (39:00-41:17)

2) Reyes and Doggett (43:03-43:52)

These are some fabulous cues that are more on the beautiful/pensive side.

Again, thank you guys so much for putting together this set. Can't wait till July!!!

Michael
