I'm not partial to editing and programming music much, any more than I'm partial to tearing boring pages out of my books. I pay the author, editor and publisher to make those decisions and present me with a product that's good to go when I put down my cash. And that's more or less what I like to do with music.

Amen.

I don't begrudge anyone wanting complete scores, if that's their preference. What I do object to is the notion that complete scores give everybody what they want, because you can always cut it down. Even if all cues are separated enough that no internal cuts within tracks need be made, and even if the complete score does not bleed onto an expensive second disc, there is a simple matter of time. If I'm presented with an 80 minute CD that seems overlong and repetitive (not all do, but most do), picking the tracks for a concise listening experience of, say, 50 minutes (an arbitrary choice -- obviously, each score is different) means listening to that CD at full length at least three or four times -- a five hour project. This seems like homework to me.

And an overlong CD is a chore, to the point that I may not realize where the highlights really are. As you say, mastadge, I'd prefer professionals produce a CD for me. The downside, of course, is that they may pick a different 50 minutes than I would have. That's true. Still, I'd prefer a well-produced album most of the time. Not always. Mostly.

Before anybody screams, please bear in mind that I know you feel differently, and my preferred version is anathema to you. That's fine. But my preference is not crazy, selfish, or lazy. To me, it's purely pragmatic.

Well you can thank me later for doing the work fot you; on lots of overlong releases.
I call them my "album or lp"version e.g. PREDATOR

Better watch out, Marshall. You know what Kent Smith told Kolchak...

re-read my post
then you will be on the path, my sonsmile

I'd love to read it.

But I'm not a subscriber, shortage of funds, etc.

Guess I'm just doomed to wander the world unenlightened.

Bugger!

Thanks anyhow.

Bruce, is there a link to this article anywhere?

I'd be very interested in reading it, but, sadly, I can't find where to download it from.

Thanks Bruce, great article. It's my favourite film and score of all time. I was lucky enough to see it when I was 16, (they weren't supposed to let anyone in under 21) sat through it twice, then saw it another 50 times in the cinema and countless times on dvd etc. I've lost count of how many copies of the score I've purchased over the years. It's just marvellous entertainment.

I cant believe there are folks here - who spent $60 for the INDY box- that are prepared to spend another $100 for 'complete' 2 cd versions.
Brm

Ps on second thoughts. ....I do believe it.
